It is with heavy hearts and deep love that the Babineaux family announces the passing of Elverse J. Babineaux, Sr., the beloved patriarch and rock of their family. Elverse gently closed his eyes to this earthly life on Thursday, October 8, 2026, and entered into eternal peace and glory. He was 84 years old.
Elverse was born on March 11, 1942, in New Iberia to the late Harry Babineaux and Rita Trahan Babineaux. He was the only son among six children and was raised with the values of hard work, love of family, and a deep appreciation for the outdoors. From an early age, he learned the importance of craftsmanship and dedication while working alongside his father, who taught him carpentry, plumbing, electrical work, and other valuable trades. These skills became a lifelong passion that he proudly passed down to his sons and son-in-law, helping each of them build their homes from the ground up. Nothing brought him greater pride than knowing he had a hand in building the homes where his children would raise their own families.
Elverse was married to his best friend and the love of his life, Patsy Louviere Babineaux. Together, they built 66 years of marriage rooted in love, devotion, and an unwavering commitment to family. Their greatest blessings came with the arrival of their four children, Elverse Jr., Tammy, Chad, and Shane, followed by the grandchildren and great-grandchildren who brought even more joy and meaning to their lives.
A dedicated provider, Elverse devoted more than five decades of his life to the oilfield industry, building a career that brought stability and security to his family. His work ethic was unmatched, and there were times he remained offshore or away from home for more than a month to ensure a job was completed properly. Although he held supervisory positions, Elverse never considered himself above working alongside his crew. He made certain his coworkers had the tools, support, and guidance they needed, generously sharing his extensive knowledge and years of experience. He retired from Smith International after previously working with Petco Davis Kemp and TriTech. Even in retirement, his expertise remained in demand, as companies continued to call upon him for consulting. His contributions to the oilfield industry and the people he worked alongside left a lasting impression, and he was deeply missed by those who had the privilege of working with him.
Yet, beyond his accomplishments in the oilfield, Elverse's greatest work was the life he built for his family. He was the very definition of a provider, a strong and capable man who faced the demands of a rugged career with determination, but whose heart was tender and full of love. Everything he did was rooted in his desire to give his family the very best. His greatest reward was never material success, but the happiness of those he loved.
Family vacations were among Elverse's favorite traditions, and no destination was ever too far when it meant making memories with his loved ones. Some of the family's favorite adventures took them to the Great Smoky Mountains and Breckenridge, Colorado. Perhaps the most memorable was the celebration of his and Patsy's 50th wedding anniversary at Disney World, where the entire family joined them for a trip filled with laughter, excitement, and treasured moments. Elverse spared no expense when it came to providing wonderful experiences and comfortable accommodations for his family, and he and Patsy cherished every smile and every moment spent together.
He was especially proud of the special trips he and Patsy took with their grandchildren, giving them the opportunity to enjoy adventures without their parents and allowing their grandparents to spoil them along the way. These trips became treasured memories that his grandchildren will carry with them forever. Elverse and Patsy also enjoyed traveling on their own, including a remarkable three-week journey overseas during which they toured ten different countries. Whether exploring new places or simply enjoying time together at home, Elverse was happiest when surrounded by the people he loved.
The outdoors held a special place in Elverse's heart. An avid hunter and fisherman, he spent countless hours at the hunting camp with family, enjoying the simple pleasures of the outdoors and the fellowship of those closest to him. He and Patsy also purchased a camp at Cypremort Point, affectionately named Margaritaville, where the entire family could gather, enjoy the water, and make memories together.
Still, his favorite place of all was home. It was there that family and friends gathered for visits, delicious meals, lively conversations, and plenty of laughter. Elverse loved Patsy's spaghetti and never passed up an opportunity to enjoy his favorite boudin, cracklins, and sweets. A true lover of chocolate and candy, he delighted in sharing treats with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, creating little moments of happiness that will forever remain in their hearts.
Elverse understood that the greatest riches in life could not be measured in possessions or accomplishments, but in the love shared around a family table, the laughter of children, and the comfort of being surrounded by those who matter most. He gave freely and without expectation, asking for nothing more than the opportunity to spend time with his family. His life was rich beyond measure, filled with the people, traditions, and experiences he treasured most.
Though his family will miss him more deeply than words can express, they find comfort in their faith and in the promise of a heavenly reunion. His legacy will live on in the homes he helped build, the values he instilled, the memories he created, and the generations of family who will forever carry his love with them. Until they meet again, may his soul and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Elverse, you are loved beyond measure and will never be forgotten.
Those left to cherish his memory and carry on his legacy of love include his wife and best friend of 66 years, Patsy Louviere Babineaux; his four children, Elverse Joseph “Bozie” Babineaux, Jr. (Charmaine), Tammy Babineaux Doumit (Phillip), Chad David Babineaux (Robbie), and Shane Jude Babineaux; nine grandchildren, Breigh Neuville (Cale), Dustin Babineaux (Latrelle), Brittlyn Vergenal (Skye), Alexis Smith (Ritchey), Meagan LeBlanc (Bryant), Angelle Babineaux (Trevor), Danielle Babineaux (Brandon), Cameron Babineaux (Victoria), and Brennan Babineaux; twelve great-grandchildren, Willow and Sloane Deshotel, Emery and Emilia Vergenal, Dash and Aston Neuville, Gauge and Avery Babineaux, Olivia and Harper LeBlanc, Arya and Iris Smith, and Xander Babineaux; and his sisters, Earline Migues, Margaret Gonsoulin, and Gayle Prados (Allen).
