Eva Pitre Derouen, a devoted wife of 56 years, loving mother and grandmother, and faithful member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 24, 2026, at Carpenter House in Lafayette. She was 75.
Eva was born on February 25, 1951, in the rural community of Borel near Jeanerette, to the late Raoul Pitre and the late Lovinia Guillotte Pitre. As their only child, she learned from an early age the values of compassion, love for family, and kindness toward others—qualities that would define her life.
She met the man of her dreams, Avery Paul Derouen, and they were united in marriage on December 14, 1969. Together, they built a loving home and were blessed with five children: Madgrical, Madrecka, Montreen, Marcel and Manny. Over the years, their family grew to include cherished grandchildren who brought her immense joy.
In the early years of her marriage, Eva began studying with the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses to enrich her spiritual life, and in 1973 she was baptized. She remained a faithful Witness throughout her life, actively participating in field service as her health allowed. Through her ministry, she shared messages of hope and compassion, always giving generously of her time. She also lovingly cared for elderly individuals in need, serving others selflessly and with a full heart.
Eva treasured time spent with family and friends. She fondly recalled many family vacations, especially trips to the Smoky Mountains in Gatlinburg, Tennessee, and to AstroWorld in Houston, Texas. Later in life, she enjoyed traveling across the United States with friends, including memorable visits to New Mexico and Utah.
Among her simple joys were dining out with loved ones, watching classic black-and-white movies, listening to the soothing sound of rain on a tin roof, and gathering for Sunday meals surrounded by those she loved most.
Eva will be dearly missed, but her memory will forever remain in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
Those left to cherish her memory are her husband and best friend of 56 years, Avery Paul Derouen; her children, Madrecka Derouen and husband Billy Landry, Montreen Derouen, and Marcel Derouen; and her grandchildren, Seth Landry, Noah Landry, Ethan Landry, Macie Lynn Derouen, Dawson Derouen, Miley Derouen, and Dakota Derouen.
She was preceded in death by her daughter and son, Madgrical Derouen and Manny Paul Derouen; her parents, Raoul and Lovinia Pitre; and her in-laws, Etienne Derouen and Rena Romero Derouen Owens.
Funeral services celebrating Eva’s life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 9, 2026, at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 1401 Margie Street in New Iberia. Brother Bart Boyer will officiate.
Eva will be laid to rest privately at a later date.
Visitation will be held at the Kingdom Hall from 1:00 p.m. until service time.
