Evelyn Romero Frederick, a beloved resident of New Iberia, Louisiana, passed away peacefully on Monday, August 5, 2024, at the age of 83. Evelyn was born on July 28, 1941, in New Iberia to the late Honore and Jeanne Colter Romero.
For the past five years, Evelyn called Landmark of Acadiana her home, where her radiant smile and gentle spirit touched the hearts of many. She brought warmth and joy to those around her with her vibrant personality and kind nature.
Evelyn found happiness in the simple pleasures of life. She loved visiting the casino, playing Bingo, and enjoying games of Bouree. Her passion for Cajun music and dancing brought her immense joy, and she embraced every opportunity to celebrate life through music and movement.
Above all, Evelyn cherished her role as a mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Her family was the center of her world, and she delighted in spending time with them. Her exceptional cooking and baking were a testament to her love and dedication; she was renowned for her homemade sweet dough tarts, which became a cherished tradition among her loved ones.
She will be deeply missed but lovingly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her. May she rest in peace.
Those left behind to cherish her memory are her loving children, Ernest Hebert; Lester Frederick (Jennifer); Donald Frederick (Tammy Lynn); Harry Frederick, Jr. (Cindy); Nancy F. Dupuis (Soupy); Catherine F. Creighton (Chris) and Barbara Frederick; daughter in law, Darlene R. Frederick; one brother, Morris Thibeaux; her grandchildren, Chance Gonzales, Julien Dupuis, Macy Creighton, Ridge Creighton, Mackenzie Frederick, Mason Ray Frederick and Mason Patin and her great-grandchildren, Jameson Dupuis, Jolie Grace Dupuis, Haze Curtis and Gunner Curtis.
Along with her parents she is preceded in death by her husband, Harry Frederick, Sr.; one son, Lloyd Frederick; her siblings, Edez Colson, Etienne Romero, Joseph Romero and Cecile Romero; two grandchildren, Derrick Duhon and Travis Melancon; her grandmother, Elise S. Romero and her significant other, Louis Porier.
A Mass of Christian Burial celebrating Evelyn’s life will be held at 10:00 am on Thursday, August 8, 20024 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church. Fr. Anslem will be the celebrant. Following the Mass, she will be laid to rest at Memorial Park Cemetery.
Visiting hours will be observed on Wednesday, August 7, 2024, at Evangeline Funeral Home from 2:00 pm until 8:00 pm. The Men’s Rosary group will pray the Rosary at 6:00 pm. The funeral home will reopen on Thursday at 8:00 am until 9:30 am.
