NEW IBERIA – A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted for Fernand Jarvis DeGravelle, age 77, at 10:00 am on Saturday, May 25, 2019 at St. Peter’s Catholic Church with Fr. Ed Degeyter officiating. Interment will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery.

A gathering of family and friends will be held at St. Peter’s Catholic Church on Saturday from 8:00 am until service time. A rosary will be prayed at 9:00 am.

A native and resident of New Iberia, Mr. DeGravelle passed away on Wednesday, May 22, 2019 at Iberia Medical Center.

Born on October 18, 1941 to the late Walter DeGravelle, Sr. and Mary “Nell” Sanford DeGravelle, Fernand was one of six children. He was a devout Christian and faithful parishioner of St. Peter’s Catholic Church. He was a Christian Brother, a Men’s Christian Teachers Organization, for six years. Fernand was a kind and thoughtful man who enjoyed the simple life of county living. He worked as the counterman at Coburn’s Plumbing Supplies for 22 years. After his retirement, Fernand would often stop by Coburns to visit and share a cup of coffee and donuts with his old coworkers. In his younger days he enjoyed fishing offshore. A loving brother and uncle, Fernand will be truly and deeply missed by all those he knew and loved.

He is survived by his brothers, Walter DeGravelle, Jr. of New Iberia and Camille “Cam” DeGravelle of Thibodaux; sister, Alice Lowery and husband Herb of Baton Rouge; and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Walter, Sr. and Nell Sanford DeGravelle; brother, William “Bill” DeGravelle; and sister, Mary Ellen DeGravelle Krall.

Pallbearers will be Pat Krall, Brian DeGravelle, Eric DeGravelle, Craig DeGravelle, Michael Krall, and Joshua Pickell.

Honorary pallbearers will be Fernand’s nieces and nephews.
