

New Iberia – A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for Gerald P. Broussard, age 78, at 2:00 pm on Saturday, September 15, 2012 at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church. Msgr. Richard Greene will be the celebrant and conduct the Mass. Interment will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery.
A gathering of family and friends will be held at Evangeline Funeral Home on Friday from 4:00 pm until 10:00 pm, with the rosary being recited at 6:30 pm. The funeral home will reopen on Saturday from 8:00 am until 1:30 pm.
Mr. Broussard was born February 14, 1934 in Loreauville to Didier and Ita Boudreaux Broussard, and passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 12, 2012 at Ochsner Medical Center of Baton Rouge. He was a longtime resident of New Iberia, and owned and operated several service stations in New Iberia for many years. Mr. Gerald’s greatest joy was the time spent with his family. He leaves behind many fond memories that will forever be cherished by all who knew and loved him.
Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Mabel Derouen Broussard of New Iberia; his children, Darrel Broussard and wife Burnella of Breaux Bridge, and Donna Broussard Brasseaux and husband Ronald of Baton Rouge; four grandchildren, Kimberly Sibley and husband Kris of Denham Springs, Ronnie Brasseaux, Jr. of Baton Rouge, Raina Angelle and husband Neal of Breaux Bridge, and Ami Broussard of Breaux Bridge; three great grandchildren, Kilah Cormier, Brennan Sibley, and Emma Sibley; his brothers, Ransdell Broussard of Groves, TX and Kenneth Broussard of New Iberia; and his sisters, Marine Barrilleaux of New Iberia, and Dolores Richard of Cade.
He was preceded in death by his son, Kevin Broussard; parents, Didier and Ita Boudreaux Broussard; brothers, Raymond Broussard and John Broussard; and sisters, Gladys Semar and Lorraine Lopez.
Pallbearers will be members of the family.
