Godfrey Peter Bourque Sr.

NEW IBERIA – A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted for Godfrey Peter “Poop” Bourque, Sr., age 80, will be conducted at 11:00 am on Saturday, September 1, 2012 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church. Fr. Mark Derise will serve as celebrant for the service and Fr. Ed Degeyter will serve as con celebrant. Interment will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 pm until 9:00 pm on Friday with a Rosary at 6:30 pm. The funeral home will reopen at 8:00 am on Saturday until service time.

A native of Iberia Parish and resident of St. Martinville, formerly of New Iberia, Mr. Bourque passed away at 6:45 pm on Monday, August 27, 2012 at Iberia Medical Center.

Mr. Bourque worked in the oilfield industry for nearly 50 years and retired from Schlumberger after 18 years of service. He served 12 years in the National Guard was a volunteer fireman for the city of St. Martinville and an auxiliary policeman for the town of Loreauville.

Mr. Bourque enjoyed woodworking and was a wonderful carpenter. He loved spending time with his family and traveling with his wife. He will be missed dearly by all who knew and loved him.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Goldie Blanchard Bourque of St. Martinville; three sons, Godfrey Bourque, Jr. and his companion Alicia of Alice, TX; David Bourque and wife Chris and Marty Bourque all of St. Martinville; three daughters, Mercedes Bourque of Broussard; Emma Judice and Deanna Delahoussaye and husband Danny all of St. Martinville; granddaughters, Marcelle Dinger and husband Corbert, Jr., Kristi LaFleur and husband Chris, Jenna Beyt and husband Brian, Lacey Theriot and husband Jake and Jade Borel and husband Blaine; grandsons, Michael Bourque and wife Victoria, Brooks Judice and wife Kari, Ervin Bares and wife Ashley, Jerard Bourque and fiancé Brooke, Jake Bares and companion Crystal, David Bourque, Jr. and Robert Bourque and wife Terry; seven great grandchildren and four step great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Loretta Bourque; son, Hubert Bourque, great granddaughter, Katelyn Hebert; parents, Marcel and Emma Hebert Bourque two brothers, Junius Bourque and Warren “Bob” Bourque and five sisters, Lily Mae Richard and her husband Hubert; Mildred Richard, Lillian Kenner,; Nellie Mae Lasseigne and Joyce LeBlanc.

Michael Bourque, Brooks Judice, Ervin Bares, Jerard Bourque, Jake Bares and David Bourque, Jr. will serve as pallbearers. Robert Bourque, Chris LaFleur, Brian Beyt, Jake Theriot, Blaine Borel and Corbert Dinger, Jr. will serve as honorary pallbearers.
