Grace Theresa Romero

NEW IBERIA – Funeral services will be celebrated for Grace Theresa Romero, age 84, at 3:00 pm Friday, December 19, 2014 at Evangeline Funeral Home. Fr. Barry Crochet, Pastor of Our Lady of Prompt Succor Catholic Church, will officiate. Grace will be laid to rest with her parents, brother and sister in Memorial Park Cemetery.

A gathering of family and friends will be held at Evangeline Funeral Home on Friday from 9:00 am until time of services, with the Rosary being prayed during the visitation.

Grace was born December 23, 1929 in New Iberia to the late Sylvan Romero and Amy Derouen Romero, and passed away on Tuesday, December 16, 2014 at Vermilion Health Care in Nunez.

Grace was retired from AT&T with 30 plus years. She was also a substitute teacher in Iberia Parish and taught children in all grades for 15 years. She was a parishioner of Our Lady of Prompt Succor Catholic Church, and a member of the Evangeline Chapter of the AT&T Pioneers.

“Dacie” as she was affectionately called, will be missed dearly and remembered fondly for her feisty spirit, quick wit, her love for her dogs, especially T-Boy, and love for family and friends. She also enjoyed a fun night out at the casino and bingo hall...especially if she won.

We will always cherish the wonderful memories and laughs that you gave us throughout all the years.

Survivors include her nieces and nephews, Robert Romero, Pam Broussard, Dawn Domingue, Ken Halphen, Scott Halphen, Becky Gaudet, Keith Oliver, Artie Romero, Steve Romero, and Jeff Romero. She is also survived by numerous great nieces and nephews.

Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by brothers and sisters, Kenwood Romero, Jack Romero, Marion Oliver and Pearl Halphen; and nephew, Jerry Oliver.

Serving as pallbearers will be Robert Romero, Scott Halphen, Mark Domingue, Scott Broussard, Jason Broussard, and Pressley Broussard, III. Honorary pallbearers are Keith Oliver, Pressley Broussard, Jr. and Ken Halphen.
