Mr. Freyou was born November 2, 1934 in New Iberia to the late Leodias Freyou and the late Eunice Babin Freyou and was one of five children. He hails from a long line of farmers and has farmed Sugar Cane all of his life. In his younger years, Harold would work in the fields all day, then go on to J & L and work as a welder and fitter. Welders were happy to work with him because he would fit so precisely, that not much welding was needed. And he was very good with building things. He could build anything from any type of material and it was built solid. His hard work extended beyond that as he farmed cattle, grew his own garden and served as a past president of the Farmers Market here in New Iberia, and drove school buses (Bus #122) in Iberia Parish for over 25 years. All things that he loved doing. Harold has served on various farm related boards and organizations such as, Past President, Officer and Board of Directors for Cajun Sugar Co-op, and Past President, Officer and Board of Directors for Iberia Parish Farm Bureau.
Some of his pastimes included camping and cooking. He and the family and friends enjoyed some great times at Cypremort Point feasting on his world famous fish courtboullion while he played guitar for everybody. Harold did a lot of fishing and trolling also and kept the family well stocked on fresh seafood. It was easy to see that everything Harold did was for the sake and care of his family, and to share all that he loved with them. Those times will be cherished. Rest well Harold for you have earned your heavenly reward.
