

NEW IBERIA – A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted for Mr. I.A. “Bo” Bonini, age 84, at 11:00 am Saturday, February 13, 2010 at St. Peter’s Catholic Church with Fr. Gary Schexnayder officiating. Interment will be held at Memorial Park Cemetery with military honors by VWF Post #1982.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm on Friday with a Rosary at 7:00 pm. The funeral home will reopen at 9:00 am on Saturday until service time.
Mr. Bonini passed away on Wednesday, February 10, 2010 at Consolata Nursing Home. He was born in Healdsburg, California and made New Iberia his home from 1960 until his death. He retired from the U.S. Navy with the rank of Chief Petty Officer after 20 years of service, including action in WWII. He then went on to work for the U.S. Postal Service until 1975, upon his retirement he and his wife Carmen, opened Bo’s Attic Antiques in New Iberia, which closed in 2000. Bo introduced New Iberia citizens to square dancing and the club he started, The Hoedowners, is still in existence today.
He is survived by his three children, Robert Walker and wife Margie of Iota, Katherine Walker Thibodaux and husband Bud of Lafayette and Jane Walker Barringer and husband Don of Auburn, AL; his grandchildren, Bryan Barringer of Memphis, TN; Ashley B. Daniels of Auburn, AL; Stephen Walker of Eunice; Carmen W. Speer of Iota; Michael Walker of The Woodlands, TX; Mary Beth W. Trahan of Iota; Mark Walker of Basile and Annie W. Pickett of Iota; numerous great grandchildren; his special niece Jeanne “Bunny” Angers and numerous nieces and nephews in Louisiana and California.
He was preceded in death by his father, Giovanni “John” Bonini; mother, Clara Rogantini Bonini; his wife, Carmen Marin Walker Bonini; brother, James Bonini; sister, Norma B. Smith; brothers-in-laws, Msgr. Charles E. Marin, John Marin, Lawrence Marin, Michael Marin, Roland Marin and his sister-in-law, Marguerite M. Carpenter.
Pallbearers will be Don Barringer, Bryan Barringer, Bud Thibodaux, Bunny Angers, Mark Walker and Stephen Walker.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society, 875 North Randolph Street, Suite 225-Arlington, VA 22203-1977.
The family wishes to thank the Staff of Consolata Nursing Home, especially Amy, Cynthia and Marcie, for their love, excellent care and support, and to Rita Boutte for her devoted care.
