LOREAUVILLE – A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for James “Jimmy” Renwick Wilson, age 83, at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Loreauville. Following the Mass, Jimmy will be laid to rest at Holy Family Cemetery, 2807 N. Curtis Lane in New Iberia, where full military graveside honors will be rendered.
A gathering of family and friends will be held at Evangeline Funeral Home, 314 E. Saint Peter Street in New Iberia, on Monday, September 7, 2026, from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. A Rosary will be prayed by Deacon Cody Miller at 6:30 p.m. Visitation will resume on Tuesday from 9:00 a.m. until 1:30 p.m.
Jimmy passed away on Thursday, September 3, 2026, at the age of 83. He was a resident of Loreauville, Louisiana.
A proud veteran of the United States Air Force, Jimmy served his country from 1962 until 1966. He retired from South Central Bell Telephone Company after 26 years of dedicated service as a technician. Jimmy was ordained a deacon in 1988 and faithfully assisted and remained active at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in New Iberia. He enjoyed playing golf, and in his younger days, he loved hunting and fishing.
Above all else, Jimmy’s greatest joy was his family. He loved nothing more than spending time with those closest to him and treasured the many memories they made together throughout the years. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend, Jimmy will be truly and deeply missed by all those who knew and loved him.
Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife of 15 years, Lorraine Shannon Wilson; his daughter, Pamela Wilson Romero (Ricardo); his brothers, Hal Wilson (Carita) and Chris Wilson (Sissy); his sisters, Cheryl Leon (Laurie) and Beth Graybill (David); his grandchildren, Danielle Romero, Virginia Miles, Ronald Marks, Charlene Marks, and Zackary Marks; and his great-grandchildren, Sebastian, Emmercyn, Evangeline, Reyen, Brenden, Madison, and Ella.
He was preceded in death by his father, Hal August Wilson; his mother, Virginia Palestina Wilson; his daughter, Jennifer Marks; his sister, Patricia Wilson Santos; and his grandchild, Brittany Romero.
Serving as pallbearers will be Gene Comeaux, Ronald Marks Jr., Preston Hebert, Vic Segura, Hal Wilson, and Mac Boudreaux.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to all of their friends and neighbors who offered their love, support, and care for Jimmy throughout his illness. They are especially thankful to those who joined them in praying the Rosary and kept Jimmy and the family in their prayers during this difficult time. Your kindness, compassion, and friendship will always be remembered and deeply appreciated. Also special thanks to Elaine, Diane, and Linda, Jimmy's caretakers, and to the staff of Heart of Hospice.
