Janice Maire (Shepherd) David, 74, passed away peacefully at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas on September 16th, 2026, after a short battle with pancreatic cancer. She was a much-beloved sister, mother, Nana, and neighbor.
She was born July 27th, 1952, to Richard Lewis “Shep” Shepherd and Mary Maude (Efurd) Shepherd in New Iberia, Louisiana. She was the youngest of three siblings.
Her siblings are Sherry (Shepherd) Heimgartner and Wayne Shepherd. She married her high school sweetheart and the love of her life, Randall James David, in 1971 and they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 2021.
They welcomed their daughter, Keli Renee (David) Touchet, in 1975, and their son, Jason Paul David, in 1977. Janice worked as the Administrative Assistant for Highland Baptist Church in New Iberia, Louisiana for 25 years, retiring in 2006. That same year, Janice and Randall moved from their home state of Louisiana to Tomball, Texas.
Janice is remembered for her capacity for kindness. She took great pride and joy in maintaining her beautiful gardens and an immaculate home, in which she would regularly offer space to friends and family in need of a friendly place to lay their heads. She never met a bird she didn’t like and would tell anyone who would listen about her latest sighting. She was a lover of cats and coffee, and had no reservations about telling anyone precisely how she wanted things done.
Janice is preceded in death by her husband, Randall, her parents, Shep and Mary Maude, and her brother, Wayne. She is survived by her sister, Sherry and husband Larry Heimgartner, and her children, Keli and husband Chris Touchet, and Jason and wife Nicole David. She lovingly filled the role of “Nana” to Meagan, Connor, and Zachary David, Eli Touchet, and Gabriel Ledoux.
Memorial services will be held at Evangeline Funeral Home in New Iberia, Louisiana on October 10th, 2026.
