Obituary of Jeane Humphrey Kelsoe
NEW IBERIA – Jeane Humphrey Kelsoe passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 30, 2022, at Consolata Nursing Home in New Iberia. At her passing she was 91. Jeane was born on February 2, 1931, to the late Hiram and Zula Hale Humphrey and was the youngest girl of nine children born to that union. She was raised in Sequoyah County in Oklahoma in a family that learned the value of working hard and raising a family. Jeane’s life’s mission was to glorify God in all that she said and did, and she followed her own admonition to leave every place she went and everyone that she met better than she found them. Through her own dedication to the Lord, Jeane helped to bring God's word to many people and to help lead them to salvation. She was a devoted member of Trinity Baptist Church for which she was one of the charter members. Years later when her daughters moved to Highland Baptist Church, Jeane followed to be able to worship with her daughters. At each church she was a loved and devoted Bible (Sunday School) teacher. She had a beautiful alto voice and loved singing in the choir, especially singing old hymns. During times of need, she was always ready to bring a dish of food to a family who had lost a loved one or just to help a sick person who was unable to cook for themselves. Above all, she was a person devoted to prayer and kept lists of who to pray for and what specific need she needed to be praying for in that person's life. She also enjoyed being a part of Highland Crafters who would make prayer blankets for those going through sickness and terminal illnesses. She looked forward every week to joining the other ladies to talk and sew at the same time! One of the highlights of her Christian life was going to Ukraine. Her contributions and dedication to her community and church will forever be remembered. Most importantly, and above all else, Jeane’s greatest love was for her family. Outside of the church, Jeane’s home life was what brought her the most joy. Home was where family came to visit, share good laughs, memories, and a meal. Her daughters fondly remember sitting down for family meals, which they had every night without fail. Sweet potato casserole and grilled cheese sandwiches were favorite meals of her grandkids and she treasured cooking for them! Her legacy will live on in the hearts and thoughts of all who knew and loved her. We rejoice in knowing that she is not gone, only gone on before us. Until we meet again. We love you.
