NEW IBERIA – A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted for Joseph “Joey” Whitney Veazey, III, age 54, at 10:30 am Thursday, March 22, 2018 at St. Peter’s Catholic Church with Fr. Alexander Albert officiating. Interment will follow at Beau Pre Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 pm until 9:00 pm on Wednesday with a Rosary at 6:30 pm. The funeral home will reopen at 8:00 am until 10:00 am on Thursday.
A native of New Iberia and resident of Youngsville, Mr. Veazey passed away at 12:36 pm on Sunday, March 18, 2018 at Lafayette General Medical Center.
Joey graduated from New Iberia Sr. High in 1982 and was employed in the oilfield industry working offshore for more than 30 years.
He enjoyed being with friends and riding his motorcycle; loved his dog, Simba and especially loved his children and family.
He is survived by his son, Blake J. Veazey of Lafayette; one daughter, Hannah Marie Veazey of Youngsville; his mother, Brenda J. Miguez and her companion Milton E. Watson of Abbeville; his step mother, Jennie Veazey of Jeanerette; two brothers, Christopher J. Veazey and wife Leslie and Chad J. Veazey and wife Tonya all of New Iberia; two sisters, Michelle V. Boudreaux and husband Clint of Coteau and Jamie L. Olivier and husband Dustin of New Iberia; his godchildren, Christopher T. Veazey and wife Pam of Leonard, Maryland; Mikalyn Boudreaux of Coteau; Emily Veazey of Oxford, MS and Alex Breaux of New Iberia; three nieces, Shelyece McGahhey of Youngsville; Emmy Olivier and Reese Olivier of New Iberia; one nephew, Kaine Olivier of New Iberia and three great nieces.
He was preceded in death by his father, Joseph Whitney Veazey, Jr.; maternal grandparents, Aldez Migues, Sr. and Anna Mae M. Broussard; paternal grandparents, Whitney Veazey, Sr. and Lucille Broussard Veazey and his godparents.
Pallbearers will be Blake J. Veazey, Christopher J. Veazey, Chad J. Veazey, Alex Breaux, Christopher T. Veazey and Clint Boudreaux. Bruce Burley, Blake Sims, Dustin Olivier, Greg Migues and Timmy Meyers will be honorary pallbearers.
Joey’s family would like to thank all of his caregivers throughout his journey for their care and compassion.
