Kent James Myers was born on October 22, 1957 to Hazel and Oswald Myers as their third son in New Iberia, Louisiana. He came from a humble beginning, learning about hard work and providing for your family at an early age. He left this world on August 22, 2021 at 63 years old at his residence in St. Martinville, Louisiana. Kent is survived by his four children: Jennifer Myers, Jacob Myers (Shelley), Jamie Docter (Joshua), and Jessica Talley; his 5 siblings: Terry Myers (Muriel), Steve Myers (Vickie), Gail Broussard, Tammy Gaspard (Jerome), and Craig Myers; his 5 grandchildren: Alyssa, Liam, Maggie, Riley, and Emma; his 13 nieces and nephews: Michelle, Tonja, Mandy, Josh, Amy, Tiffany, Troy, Crystal, Hillary, Heather, Derek, Diana, and Trent; and close cousins: Sandra Derouen, Mitchell Dartez (Sylvia), Darryl Meyers(Barbara), and Debbie Meyers (Tony). Kent loved his family and was proud to be a Myers.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Hazel and Oswald Myers; his grand- parents, Gussie and Andrew Myers, and Elda and Arthur Romero; his beloved uncle, Clifford Joseph Meyers; his beloved godmother and aunt, Mary Jeanne Dartez; his beloved brother-in-law, Roy Joseph Broussard; and his beloved cousin Wayne James Dartez. Kent graduated from New Iberia Senior High School in 1975. He was a seasoned and well-respected paint and body artist and mechanic, trained by his late brother-in-law, Roy. He had many notable ventures throughout his career, including a restoration of a passenger train line, managing body shops in New Iberia, and becoming one of the most successful local artists. He went on to open his own body shop and was most proud of his most recent shop that he lovingly named, “Master’s Hand Collision”, which he said was inspired by his mother, Hazel. In his personal life, he was a friend to many. He spent years in ministry to local prisons and had a knack for loving the downtrodden. He loved the Lord and shared that love with his family, his children, and his friends. Kent had a larger than life personality, and either teased you or had you cracking up laughing. As an avid New Orleans Saints fan and believer, his family feels he is loving his current company in Heaven.

The family invites anyone who would like to join them in wearing their best Saint’s gear or black and gold to honor Kent’s love for his New Orleans Saints. Honorary pallbearers are Randy Breaux, Jacob Myers, Terry Myers, Steve Myers, Craig Myers, Jerome Gaspard, Mitchell Dartez, Darryl Meyers, and Derek Myers.

This is a hard one. I can't begin to explain what you meant to me. You definitely were like a second Dad. You always included Derek, and I into plans with you & your kids, and they have always been like extended siblings instead of just cousins to me. I will always remember so many things about you, such as your tigger laugh, your love for the Saints, you working out under the porch at granny's, and me calling you Uncle Schwarzenegger lol But mostly your heart, that extended out to 2 kids that weren't your own. It shows how much just a little love, and care can do. When I felt I had no one, you always came through. It's profoundly changed my life, and left me with memories for a lifetime, and I will truly miss you forever & a day! To the family, please take a look around at who is left. We never know what life may bring. The next time we get to see each others faces, another one may be missing. It's so important to love each other, and make memories when available, because life can always have other plans. It's so important to say I'm sorry, and I love you, because we never know when we wont have that opportunity again. I love you Uncle Kent. May you rest in peace!
