

NEW IBERIA – Memorial services will be celebrated for Kurt James LeCamus, age 66, at 5:00 pm on Saturday, September 23, 2017 at Evangeline Funeral Home. Deacon Steve VanCleve will officiate the services. Inurnment will take place at a later date.
A memorial visitation will be held on Saturday at Evangeline Funeral Home from 1:00 pm until 6:00 pm with a rosary being recited at 4:00 pm.
A native of New Iberia and life-life-long resident of Houston, Kurt passed away on Friday, September 15, 2017 at Iberia Medical Center surrounded by his loving family.
Born on September 8, 1951 to the late Skerty LeCamus and Mrs. Gladys C. LeCamus Riley, Kurt was the eldest of four children. His love for life and people was apparent at an early age growing up in New Iberia.
After high school, Kurt went on to obtain his education from the University of Southwest Louisiana in Lafayette with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business. He began his work in the maritime transporting industry almost immediately after graduation from USL. He worked for and went on to become a partner, Owner and operator of Atlantic Steamers Supply Company, Inc. He loved the industry that soon became his life-long career.
Throughout his career he traveled abroad. These travels soon gave way to his love and passion for travel, Greece, Italy, France, China, etc . With each new location came the introduction of new cultures, people and life.
Kurt was a loving son, brother, uncle and friend. He was extremely fond of his nieces and nephews and brought much love and laughter to them.
He loved laughter, people and conversation and always became the life of the party. His hosting and entertaining skills were unsurpassed as was his love for cooking. Many gourmet meals were enjoyed by all. His sharp sense of humor will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
He is survived by his mother, Gladys C. LeCamus Riley of New Iberia; siblings, Marty LeCamus and wife Angela of New Iberia, Janelle Gonsoulin and husband Benny of New Iberia, and Dawn Bush of New Iberia; and numerous nieces, nephews and great-nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his father, Skerty LeCamus; grandparents, Johnny and Ella Camille and Husville and Amelie LeCamus; and beloved nephews, Daniel Menard and Derek Bush.
