It is with heavy hearts and deep love that the Flores family announces the passing of Leffery J. Flores, Sr., our beloved patriarch, provider, and steadfast rock of the family. Leffery passed away peacefully at his home on June 1, 2026, just two days shy of his 84th birthday. In keeping with his final wish, he was surrounded by the love of his family as he gently closed his eyes to this earthly life and entered into eternal glory.
Born on June 3, 1942, Leffery was raised on Jefferson Island before his family relocated to Bull Island. From an early age, he learned the values that would define his life—hard work, loyalty, kindness, faith, and an unwavering commitment to family. These principles guided him throughout his life and became the foundation upon which he built a legacy that will endure for generations.
A proud patriot, Leffery honorably served his country in the United States Army. He answered the call to duty with courage and dedication, carrying throughout his life a deep respect for his nation, its freedoms, and the sacrifices made by those who defend them. His love of country was evident in both word and deed, and he remained fiercely proud to be an American.
Following his military service, Leffery devoted his career to the oilfield industry. He began working for F & R Oilfield before pursuing his entrepreneurial dream and founding L & L Oilfield Sales and Services. Through hard work, expertise, and an unwavering commitment to customer service, he built a successful business that served oilfield companies throughout Acadiana and beyond for more than 35 years. His knowledge, integrity, and reputation earned him the respect of colleagues and customers alike.
While Leffery worked hard, he also knew how to enjoy life. Alongside his beloved wife, Shirley, he embraced every opportunity to create memories with family and friends. Together, they traveled extensively throughout the United States and Mexico, visiting favorite destinations such as Las Vegas, Hawaii, and Mexico, and enjoying numerous Caribbean and Cayman Islands cruises. Among their most cherished family adventures were trips to Astroworld in Houston, where laughter, playful antics, and even the occasional fly swatter made for unforgettable memories shared with children, siblings, and extended family.
Leffery found joy in life's simple pleasures. He loved gathering around the card table for spirited games of bourrée and blackjack, making trips to the casino, and listening to classic country music. He was a devoted fan of Conway Twitty, Loretta Lynn, George Strait, and Alan Jackson, and was fortunate enough to visit Twitty City and attend concerts featuring some of country music's greatest legends.
He was equally passionate about staying informed and could often be found watching Fox News or enjoying classic westerns such as Gunsmoke and Bonanza. Those who knew him best will fondly remember Shirley's frequent reminders to "calm down" whenever his enthusiasm got the better of him while watching the news.
Above all else, Leffery's greatest pride and joy was his family. He was a devoted husband, loving father, proud grandfather and great-grandfather, and a loyal brother and friend. His strength, wisdom, humor, and generosity touched countless lives. Together, Leffery and Shirley quietly helped many people in need throughout their lives, especially children, reflecting the compassionate hearts they shared.
Though our hearts are broken by his loss, we take comfort in the countless memories he leaves behind and in the faith that one day we will be reunited with him in Heaven. His love, guidance, and example will continue to inspire all who were blessed to know him.
He is survived by his devoted wife and best friend of 56 years, Shirley Romero Flores; his children, Leffery "Jake" Flores, Jr., Katina Zamudio Vargas (Ernesto), and Brent Flores (Mandi); his 15 grandchildren, Lani Derouen, Damon Derouen, Kendra Lockhart, Brennan Flores, Jase Flores, Dixie Breaud, Kain Flores, Halee Rae Flores, Marissa Flores, Gunnar Flores, Remi Flores, Tinley Flores, Diego Zamudio Tellez, Ernesto Zamudio Tellez, and Monserrat Zamudio Tellez; his 10 great-grandchildren, Marley Flores, Braxton Trahan, Brynlei Lormand, Jaxon Lormand, Paislee Breaud, Cypress Breaud, Scarlett Flores, Xanthi Lechevalier, Thiago Guzman, and Kailani Guzman; and his siblings, Gerald Flores (Dianne), Leo Paul "Chuchu" Flores, Jr. (Barbara), Judy Babin (Roy), and Linda Menard.
