Lutha Leleux Mouton was born November 17, 1922 in New Iberia to the union of Dewey Leleux and Ita Broussard LeLeux and was one of four children. On Thursday, November 14, 2019, just three days before her 97th birthday, Mrs. Mouton passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family. She was 96.

Mrs. Mouton, known by many as Mrs. “Ta” and by her family as Nan “Ta” was a longtime Hairstylist in New Iberia for over 45 years. Her career brought her great joy and an opportunity to visit with her many clients who were like family to her. Some of her favorite pastimes were going camping, vacations to the beach and enjoying a walk for exercise and she was a member of the Golden Age Club and the Council on Aging.

Faith and family were also very dear to her. Mrs. Mouton had a deep and loving devotion to the blessed mother and only wanted love and peace for others. That devotion carried over to her family who meant the world to her. Her undying love was given to her children and the many grand, great grand and great great grandchildren that she adored so much. Her beautiful smile and generous and warm heart will be missed dearly by all who knew and loved her. Rest well Nan Ta. Until we meet again.

Survivors include her four children, Sheryl M. Laporte and Sammy, George Glenn Mouton and Betty, Paul D. Mouton and Judy all of New Iberia and Jill M. Byers and Gregory of Indianapolis, IN; 13 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren, 11 great great grandchildren; and her sister, June Sonnier of Longview, TX.

She was preceded in death by her husband, George F. Mouton; her parents, Dewey and Ita Broussard Leleux; and her sister and brother, Liz L. Tilly and Hayward Leleux.

Serving as pallbearers will be Sammy Laporte, George Glenn Mouton, Paul Mouton, Brennon Broussard, Kenson Verret and Chase Parks. Gregory Byers will serve as Honorary Pallbearer.

The family would like to extend the heartfelt gratitude to Hospice of Acadiana and to Maison de Monde Nursing Center, especially the staff of the Memory Care Unit for the care and compassion shown to our dear mother.

The family would like to encourage all family and friends to visit Mrs. Mouton’s memorial page at www.evangelinefuneralhome.com and share a favorite memory or photo.

I’ve known Grannie for a long time, long before I knew my husband. My parents built our house down the street from grannie and paw paw George when I was in 3rd grade. I have sweet memories of them taking their evening walks and then grannie still walking after paw paw George passed away. I can remember my dad stopping her to give her vegetables from his garden. Little did I know that I would one day be married into the family and she would become my grannie too. I met her grandson Chris Mouton in 1997 and we married in 2002. Granny was always the sweetest person even though Chris and his brothers were not a close family. Rest In Peace Grannie!

Sheryl, Jill, Glen, Paul and family,
I knew and admired your mother all my life. She was a truly beautiful person in every possible way. This was evident in the devotion and love she inspired in all of you. She set a shining example for all of us to follow. I know she 's smiling down on all of you surrounded by all her loved ones who were waiting to welcome her into Heaven. Rest in peace, Ta.....it's time to enjoy all the rewards you've earned in your long life.

I can never put into words how important Granny’s role in my life was. That same unconditional love carried down to Chase and getting to witness their bond was just as special as the person she will be remembered as . She was one of a kind and the best person I’ve ever known. She had such a pure and loving soul and will always be in my heart. I love you Granny and I will really miss hearing you say, “Hey my love” as you grabbed my face for a kiss.

I never had the opportunity to meet this beautiful lady. However I do feel that I’ve known her awhile. Jill and Bear are our friends and it was always a pleasure sitting and listening to them talk so sweetly and with so much love and respect for “momma”. Rest In Peace you are in our prayers.
