

NEW IBERIA – A Mass of Christian Burial celebrating the life of Margaret Ann Lee, 71, affectionately called “Mawkey”, will be held at 10:00 am Tuesday, May 23, 2017 at St. Peter’s Catholic Church. Fr. Alexander Albert will be the Celebrant. Following the Mass, Margaret will be laid to rest alongside her parents at Memorial Park Cemetery.
A gathering of family and friends will be held at Evangeline Funeral Home of New Iberia on Monday from 5:00 pm until 9:00 pm, with the Men’s Rosary Group leading the Rosary at 7:00 pm. Visiting will resume on Tuesday from 8:00 am until 9:30 am.
A native of New Iberia and resident of Camelot of Broussard, Margaret finished her race at 6:20 pm on May 20, 2017, at Our Lady of Lourdes Regional Medical Center.
Margaret was employed with K-Mart, Simoneauds, and Highland Baptist Church Nursery. She loved child care and for many years provided this service from her home. She was a graduate of Mt. Carmel Academy in New Iberia. She had a strong passion for her Catholic Church faith. She loved children and yearly would put on an Easter Egg hunt for them. She loved keeping up with her classmates from school who would visit her at her residence in Broussard. She will be missed greatly by all her friends and family as her smile was contagious and most of all by her great niece Sydney that was like her daughter. Many regarded her as Mawkey or Nanny! We will miss you.
She is survived by her nieces and nephews, Alan J. Lee and wife Jackie of Bowie, MD, Patrick A. Lee and wife Debbie of Kansas City, MO, Christopher M. Lee and wife Lauren of Loreauville, Jennifer L. Broussard of Coteau, and Susan L. Trim and husband Neal of Youngsville; her great nieces and nephews, Jonathan and Riley Rafterry-Lee, Jessica, Paul, Elizabeth “Lizzy” Lee, Dianne and Sydney Trim, Jake Broussard, Christopher, Caden, Collin, Cohen, Catherine Lee. Extended family includes Leslie C. Champagne and husband Kevin of Tomball, TX, Gerald “Jerry” Comeaux and wife Carolyn of Tomball, TX and Ronnie Comeaux of New Iberia along with their children.
Miss Lee was preceded in death by her parents, Hoyed R. Lee, Sr. and Mildred Rodrigue Lee; her brother, Hoyed R. Lee, Jr., and sisters-in-law, Dianne C. Lee and Juliette D. Lee.
Serving as pallbearers are Alan J. Lee, Patrick A. Lee, Christopher Lee, Sr., Kevin Champagne, and Gregory Cenac. Honorary pallbearers are Kevin and Val Robicheaux.
The family would like to extend their sincere gratitude and appreciation to the staff of Camelot of Broussard, her doctors, and to Susan, her niece, and other family members that tended to her needs with care and compassion.
