Marvis Peter Barras Sr.

NEW IBERIA – A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted for Marvis Peter Barras, Sr., age 85, at 11:00 am Monday, December 20, 2010 at St. Peter’s Catholic Church with Fr. Charles Langlois officiating. Interment will be held at Nativity of Our Lady Mausoleum with military honors by VFW Post #1982.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 pm until 9:00 pm on Sunday with a Rosary at 6:00 pm. The funeral home will reopen at 8:00 am on Monday until service time. A native of St. Martin Parish and resident of New Iberia, Mr. Barras passed away on Thursday, December 16, 2010 at Iberia Medical Center.

Mr. Barras was a graduate of St. Martinville Senior High where he was the recipient of a Tennis Scholarship to Southwestern LA Institute. He was a veteran of the US Army who served his country faithfully during WWII. Mr. Barras enjoyed RV camping and dancing with his wife and many friends. He leaves behind many fond memories for his family and friends to cherish.

Mr. Barras is survived by his wife of 62 years, Elsie Girouard Barras of New Iberia; four children, Linda Dore and husband Phil; Debbie Burke and husband Tommy; David Barras and wife Julie and Elaine Ducote and husband Vince and his daughter in law, DeWana Barras all of New Iberia. He is also survived by eleven grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren; one brother, Norman Barras of Texas and two sisters, Doris Duplantis and husband John Emery and Janice Elias both of New Iberia.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Wilfred and Lorena Broussard Barras; his son, Marvis “Marc” Barras, Jr., one brother, Gerald Barras and one sister, Lois Cunningham.

Pallbearers will be his grandsons, Tod Dore, Jory Bonin, Cory Bonin, Farrell Bonin, Jr., Kris Barras, Dylan Ducote and Taylor Ducote.

Honorary pallbearers will be his granddaughters, Melissa Endsley, DeEtta Leap, Amber Estave and Tiffany Barras.
