

NEW IBERIA – A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for Mary Letress Theriot Derouen, age 80, at 10:00 am Wednesday, January 16, 2013 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church. Fr. Bill Gearheard will be the celebrant. Interment will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery.
A gathering of family and friends will be held at Evangeline Funeral Home on Tuesday from 4:00 pm until 9:00 pm, with the Rosary being recited at 7:00 pm. The funeral home will reopen on Wednesday from 8:00 am until 9:30 am.
Mrs. Derouen was born November 8, 1932 in Iberia Parish to Clay “Bee” Theriot and Julienne Legnon Theriot, and passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 12, 2013 at Iberia Medical Center.
Mary was a faithful parishioner of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church and enjoyed needle point and crocheting.
Survivors include her sister, Therese Picard Peltier and her husband George Peltier of Carencro; sister-in-law, Jeanette Robicheaux Theriot of Lafayette; nieces, Cindy Myers and husband Armand of Lafayette, Julie Picard Benson of New Iberia, and Shelley Hammond and husband Carl of Lafayette; and nephews, Gene Picard of New Iberia, Vernon Picard and wife Kate of Lafayette, Clay Picard and wife Vonnie of Rayne, Glen Picard and wife Kim of Gonzales, Darryl Theriot of Lafayette, and Dwayne Theriot of Lafayette.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Clay “Bee” and Julienne Legnon Theriot; brother, Joseph “Chip” Theriot; her beloved niece, Ellen Picard Hebert; and brother-in-law, Willday Picard.
Serving as pallbearers will be Vernon Picard, Clay Picard, Glen Picard, Frances Menard, Brian Briley, and Leonard Stevens.
