RYNELLA- Mathew James Comeaux, age 45, of New Iberia, passed away on Thursday, October 3, 2024. Mathew was known for his simplicity and cherished moments spent with loved ones over being in the limelight.
Born to Mildred Gondron Comeaux and Mark Comeaux, Mathew leaves behind a legacy of warmth and quiet strength. He enjoyed indulging in fantasy football, being an active member of the Huge League Chew League. During his youth, Mathew was an enthusiastic participant in baseball and football. An avid Xbox gamer, he found joy in games like Red Dead Redemption and cherished playing Fallguys with his niece. Family poker nights were also a favorite pastime, where his calm demeanor and sharp wit shone through. Mathew had a deep appreciation for country music and proudly achieved the rank of Eagle Scout.
Mathew will be deeply missed by his surviving family: his mother Mildred Gondron Comeaux, his father Mark Comeaux, his brother Marshall Comeaux (Amy), his sister Monica Comeaux Esponge (Brett), his aunt Margret Melancon, his uncle Walter Gondron (Kathy), his aunt Elizabeth Trahan (Kenneth), his uncle Michael Guillot, his aunt Joan Gondron (Paul Hermann), his aunt Linda Comeaux, his aunt Vickie Rowan (Dickie), his uncle Larry Comeaux (Patti), his nephew Cameron Esponge, his nephew Tucker Comeaux, , his niece Cecilia Comeaux, and many beloved cousins and other family.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents Sidney and Ellen Gondron, paternal grandparents Homer and Shirley Comeaux, his uncle Albert Comeaux, aunt Kathleen Guillot, and nephew Joshua Esponge.
A visitation will be held on Monday, October 7, 2024, from 8:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Evangeline Funeral Home, with a rosary prayed by the Children of Mary at 11:00 AM. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 1:30 PM at St. Marcellus Catholic Church, officiated by Fr. James Nguyen. Mathew will be laid to rest in the St. Marcellus Mausoleum.
Mitchell Melancon, Marshall Comeaux, Tucker Comeaux, Ryan Comeaux, Brodie Comeaux, Cameron Esponge, and Brett Esponge will serve as pallbearers, honoring Mathew as he is laid to rest.
