

NEW IBERIA – Funeral Services will be conducted for Mrs. John Curtis, the former Mildred Camelia DeBlanc, age 100, at 9:00 am Wednesday, September 28, 2016 at Evangeline Funeral Home, Inc. of New Iberia with Pastor James Bertrand officiating. Interment will follow at Holy Family Mausoleum.
Visitation will be held from 3:00 pm until 9:00 pm on Tuesday. The funeral home will reopen at 8:00 am on Wednesday until service time.
A native and resident of New Iberia, Mrs. Curtis passed away at 7:20 am on Wednesday, September 21, 2016 at her home.
Born on January 25, 1916 to the late Thomas and Dahlia DeBlanc, Mildred was one of four children. Mildred was a hard worker with a sweet soul and a strong will. She was a kind woman that loved to help out those in need. Mildred touched many hearts throughout her 100 years of life. She will be remembered for her love of gardening and her tough work ethic. Mildred will be truly and deeply missed by all those who knew and loved her.
She is survived by her nieces and nephews, Susan DeBlanc Landry, Barbara DeBlanc, Richard “Dickey” Charles DeBlanc, Jr., Ronald J. Bourque, Sr., and Lester J. Gonsolin, Jr.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John Curtis; parents, Thomas and Dahlia Guth DeBlanc; brothers, Richard DeBlanc and Thomas DeBlanc; sister, Ida DeBlanc; and nieces and nephews, Deanna D. Metz, Thomas C. DeBlanc, Scottie J. DeBlanc, and Patricia M. DeBlanc.
Pallbearers will be Tyten DeBlanc, Trenton DeBlanc, Blaine DeBlanc, Lester Gonsolin, Dillon Lopez, and Jeremy Standridge, Jr.
Honorary pallbearers will be Jacob Lopez, Adam Landry, Owen Racheau, Dwayne Boudreaux, Beau Racheau, Gavin Viator, Kase Viator, Landen Viator, Darrell Robin, Eli Robin, Jason Boutte, and Jared Standridge.
