

Mildred was born in Pitcairn, Pennsylvania to Donato Iandimarino and Algera Martinelli Iandimarino. She attended Seton Hill College in Greensburg, Pennsylvania where she studied voice with Margaret Garrity. Mildred also had the privilege of studying voice with Luigi and Hulda Rossini at the Rossini Opera Workshop in New York City. Mildred’s love of music and opera was evidenced by her beautiful lyric soprano voice that she shared with others in so many ways during her life time. She sang with many symphonies, including the Pittsburgh Symphony. During her residence in New Iberia, she served as choir director at St. Peter’s Catholic Church, and also worked as a remedial math teacher at Center Street Elementary. She also taught voice at studios in New Iberia and Lafayette, inspiring many vocal students of all ages. Mildred shared her beautiful voice with local churches and the Congregation Gates of Prayer synagogue in New Iberia as well as performed a variety of concerts to benefit St. Jude Children’s Hospital. She was a member of the Chorale Acadienne and performed many concerts with Alice Trotter, Elizabeth LaBauve, Charles Reynolds, Geraldine Hubble and Anne Simpson, all accomplished pianists residing in South Louisiana.
Mildred lived for many years in New Iberia, Lafayette, and Abbeville. She was the beloved mother of William Meaux and daughter-in-law Mary Bernard of Fairfax, Virginia, Leslie Meaux Pordzik and son-in-law Wolfgang of Alexandria, Virginia, David Meaux and daughter-in-law Leslie Quinn of Wake Forest, North Carolina, and Francesca Meaux and son-in-law Joseph Wolverton of Hackensack, New Jersey and the cherished grandmother of Emily and David Holt, Daniel and Tommy Meaux, Abigail and Rachel Meaux, and Joseph Wolverton Jr. She is also survived by sisters Francesca Richards, Connie Pushkar, and Antonia DeLuca and brother Vincent Iandimarino. She was predeceased by her husband, Joseph William Meaux and parents, Donato and Algera Iandimarino and brother Mario Iandimarino.
In Mildred’s later years, she resided at the Lynn Care Center in Front Royal, Virginia in the beautiful Shenandoah Valley. As a resident there, she continued to inspire the many young singers who would come to perform for the residents. The family wishes to thank the doctors and staff who lovingly cared for her there over the last several years.
Her children will receive family and friends at Evangeline Funeral Home in New Iberia on September 28th between 4 pm and 8:30 pm. A funeral mass will be held at St. Peter’s Catholic Church on September 29th at 10 am followed by burial at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Cemetery in Maurice.
Her son-in-law, Joseph Wolverton, tenor, will perform Gounod’s Ave Maria and O Divine Redeemer, during the funeral mass as a final tribute to Mildred’s love of God through song.
