January 17, 1952February 24, 2018

NEW IBERIA – A memorial service celebrating the life of Nanette Comeaux Reed will be held at 11:30 am Tuesday, February 27, 2018 at Evangeline Funeral Home. Fr. Ed Degeyter will officiate. Mrs. Reed will be laid to rest with her son David at Holy Family Mausoleum following services.

A gathering of family and friends will be held at Evangeline Funeral Home on Tuesday from 9:00 am until time of services, with the Rosary being recited at 10:00 am.

Nanette was born January 17, 1952 in New Iberia to the late Percy J. Comeaux and Gladys Babineaux Comeaux, and was the only daughter of four children. She passed away peacefully Saturday, February 24, surrounded by her loving family and dear friends. She was 66.

Nanette was a 1970 graduate of New Iberia Senior High. She then enrolled in Northeast Louisiana University with her dear friend Jackie Biano, and began her higher education working to become an Educator. Nanette continued her studies and received her Master’s Degree in Education and was also certified in Gifted and Talented education. During her career which spanned to almost four decades, she not only touched the lives of many children, but enriched them as well. Teaching was her passion and she was loved by her students and fellow educators.

Outside of teaching, Nanette had a love for dogs and raised many during her life. She also enjoyed cooking and it was said that she made the best soups around. But it can best be said that above all, Nanette was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend to many. Her legacy will live on in not only her families’ hearts, but in the hearts and minds of all she taught. Rest well Nanette.

Survivors include her husband of 16 years, Jim Reed of New Iberia; her sons, Patrick Dayton, Jr. and wife Sharyn of St. Martinville and Steven Dayton and wife Dara of Baton Rouge; her grandchildren whom she adored, Sawyer, Owen and Tristan Dayton; her step-children, Jay Reed and wife Melissa of New Orleans, Emily Reed Fraser and husband Ryan of Minnesota, Bryce Reed of New Iberia, Robyn Reed and Kelli Reed; step-grandchildren, Evelyn and Celia Reed, Jack Fraser and Alyce Reed; her brothers, Percy “Jimmy Comeaux of New Iberia, Glen Comeaux and wife Germaine of New Iberia, Rickie Comeaux and wife Becky of Arnaudville; and her beloved and loyal Dachshund, Buster.

Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, David Dayton; and her other faithful dachshund, Junior.

Love and family always come first. As long as there is love we are family. Nanette was so much more than just family. Some woman have to work very hard for grace and beauty. Not Nanette. She had it all without even trying. Her laughter and smile were contagious and always brightened your day. It was a privilege to know and love you. Rest In Peace Nanette you surely will be missed.
What moves through us is a silence, a quiet sadness, a longing for one more day, one more word, one more touch. We may not understand why you had to go so soon or why you left before we were ready to say good-bye, but then we remember not just that you died, but that you lived! Your life gave us memories too beautiful to forget!❤ We will always cherish the beautiful memories of Nanette
