Nita Marie LaCouture

NEW IBERIA – A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for Nita Marie LaCouture, age 52, at 3:00 pm Thursday, March 7, 2013 at St. Peter’s Catholic Church. Fr. Ed Degeyter will be the celebrant. Interment will follow at St. Peter’s Cemetery.

A gathering of family and friends will be held at Evangeline Funeral Home on Wednesday from 4:00 pm until 9:00 pm with the Rosary being recited at 6:00 pm. The funeral home will reopen on Thursday from 9:00 am until 2:30 pm.

Nita was born April 27, 1960 in Houston, Texas to the late James Lester LaCouture, Sr. and Doris Pourciau LaCouture and passed away on Sunday, March 3, 2013 at Iberia Medical Center.

Nita was a 1978 graduate of New Iberia Senior High. She was employed at Jeanerette Mills for 19 years and was currently employed at Haik, Minvielle & Grubbs Law Firm. Nita has been involved with Iberia Performing Arts League since 2006 and helped with the lighting on many shows. She enjoyed reading, spending time outdoors and was a huge Saints fan, but most of all her true joy was spending time with her son and best friend, Matt.

She is survived by her son, Matthew Joseph Dugan of New Iberia; step son, Joshua Dugan of Lafayette; sister in law, Virginia LaCouture; nieces, Amber La Couture and Shawntelle Tauzin; nephews, Austin LaCouture and James L. LaCouture, III; and her very special lifelong friends, Myra Russo and Maxine Harrington of New Iberia.

She was preceded in death by her parents, James Lester and Doris Pourciau LaCouture, Sr. and four brothers, James, Richard, David and Robert LaCouture.

Pallbearers will be Matthew Dugan, Josh Dugan, Tommy Minvielle, Lucian Broughton, Vincent P. Barras and Sean Comisky.
