

NEW IBERIA – A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for Norris P. Hebert, Sr., age 76, at 10:00 am Saturday, January 9, 2016 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church. Fr. Gregory Chauvin will be the celebrant. Private Interment will be held in Memorial Park Mausoleum at a later date.
A gathering of family and friends will be held at Evangeline Funeral Home on Friday from 3:30 pm until 10:00 pm, with a rosary at 6:30 pm. Visiting hours will resume on Saturday from 8:00 am until 9:30 am.
Norris P. Hebert, Sr., native of New Iberia passed away January 6, 2016 after a courageous battle for life, surrounded by family. This memory will be cherished by all those who knew him for his drive and compassion and devotion for others, especially his children and family. He never met a person who was not influenced by his actions. He was a loving father, son, husband and friend.
Norris was born on September 17, 1939 to Aida Mergist and Adam Hebert. He graduated from Erath High School in 1958. Besides his family, he was a dedicated employee of CLECO for over 25 years and LAWCO for 10 years. It was in this capacity that he earned his way from water plant shift worker to area manager. He was also an active member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church serving as an usher, and he served with pride and devotion. His pastimes included rabbit hunting and playing bouree with family and friends.
Left to cherish his memory are his children, Norris P. Hebert, Jr. and wife Phyllis Hebert, Cindy H. Chataignier and husband Bryant Chataignier, and Kris J. Hebert. It was with and through his children that his devotion and memory will live on. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Staci H. Swan (Rob), Dr. Kristi Hebert, Trey Hebert (Lauren), Grant A. Hebert, Taylor Chataignier (Kaleb), Ali Chataignier, Kirsten Hebert (Kiley), and Paylyn Hebert; two great grandchildren, Silas and Atigun Swan; and a sister and brother, Shirley David and Carlton Hebert.
He is preceded in death by his loving wife of 35 years, Shirley Hebert; parents, Aida and Amos Mergist; father, Adam Hebert; daughter-in-law, Wendy Derouen Hebert; and brothers Louis and Rodney Hebert.
Serving as pallbearers are Kris Hebert, Trey Hebert, Bryant Chataignier, Grant Hebert, Brandon LaBiche and Kaleb Kelley. Honorary pallbearers are Norris Hebert, Jr. and Kiley Patin.
Memorial contributions may be made in his name to the Alzheimers Association, 3772 North Blvd, Baton Rouge, LA 70806.
The family would also like to thank his compassionate and devoted caregivers, Theresa Wagner, Sara Loston, Dedie Joseph and Edna Bellard. Your love and dedication will forever be cherished.
