A Mass of Christian burial will be held for Porteus “Dickie” Richard Broussard at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, August 11th, 2025 at Nativity of Our Lady Catholic Church. Father Ed Degeyter will officiate. Entombment will follow at the Church mausoleum where he will be laid to rest alongside his wife, Marlene.
Visiting hours will be held at Evangeline Funeral Home of New Iberia on Sunday from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. with a rosary being prayed at 7:00 p.m. by the Men’s Rosary Group. The funeral home will reopen on Monday at 8:00 a.m. until the service time
Mr. Broussard was a veteran of the United States Navy serving from 1955 to 1959. He was employed by The Daily Iberian for over 50 years. He was an avid bowler and wrote a bowling column for the daily Iberian for many years. He was a past president of the New Iberia men’s bowling association and the Louisiana State bowling association. He was a Hall of Fame member of both associations. Mr. Broussard was a member of the bowling writers association of America and the southern bowling writers association. He was a member of Nativity of Our Lady Catholic Church where he served as an usher for many years and a member of Nativity of our Lady Knights of Columbus Council 12997 and member of the Men’s Rosary Group. He was also a member of the Ancient Order of Creole Gourmets having served as president in 2000.
He was a bag boy/ball boy for the New Iberia Cardinals when they played ball in the stadium behind New Iberia Senior High School and also at the Acadian ballpark when the team was the New Iberia Pelicans.
Mr. Broussard is survived by his brother-in-law, Phillip Thibodeaux and his wife Lynette; two nieces, Danielle Creppel and her husband Traye and Dawn Prudhomme; two great nephews, Brody and Dayton Creppel; and one great niece, Bailey Prudhomme.
He is preceded in death by his wife Marlene Broussard; parents Felias Broussard, Sr and Lonie Landry Broussard; a brother, F.J Broussard Jr. and wife Tottie; a sister, Jocelyn Broussard Theriot and her husband Earl; his sister Lucette B. Holland and her husband Clyde; and special friend, Rita Gary.
Pallbearers will be Brody Creppel, Dayton Creppel, and members of the Men’s Rosary Group.
Honorary pallbearers will be David Dore, Gabriel Landry, and members of the Ancient Order of Creole Gourmets and The Knights of Columbus.
The family and friends of Mr. Broussard would like to give special thanks to all of the staff and caregivers at Iberia Medical Center, and especially his neighbors Rick, Mary, and Derrick Durks, for their kindness, dedication, and care given to Dickie.
