With profound sadness and deep respect, we announce the passing of Richard Paul Touchet, a distinguished individual whose warmth and gentle demeanor significantly impacted all who had the privilege of knowing him. He passed away peacefully on June 26, 2025, surrounded by the deep love of his devoted family.
Richard was the beloved husband of Trudy Touchet, the love of his life for over 44 years, with whom he built a home filled with love, laughter, and unwavering devotion. He was a proud and dedicated father to his two beautiful daughters, Brittany and Laci, and welcomed his sons-in-law, Brad and Brian, into the family with open arms and a warm heart.
Of Richard's many roles throughout his life, none brought him greater joy than being “Pop.” His heart was most whole when he was with his three grandchildren—Liam, Landree, and Gray—whose laughter brought light to his world. Whether offering a listening ear, sharing his wisdom, or simply enjoying their company, every moment with them was cherished. To them, he was more than a grandfather—he was a hero, a guide, and a constant source of love and comfort.
Throughout his life, Richard cultivated a deep sense of joy and connection on the baseball field, fully immersing himself in the game he cherished with unwavering dedication and passion. He proudly suited up for several local teams—including Sorrell Electric, Gibson Industries, ACE Uniform, Royal Construction, Acadiana Telecom, and Superior Valve—bringing passion, sportsmanship, and spirit to every field he stepped on. These teams represented more than just names on a jersey; they were families where lifelong friendships and unforgettable memories were forged.
Richard's induction into the New Iberia Recreation Department (NIRD) Hall of Fame in 2013 is a testament to his profound impact on and off the field. His love for the game and unwavering dedication to his community never waned, and he continued to serve with pride on the NIRD Hall of Fame board. For Richard, it was never just about the game—it was about the people it brought together.
Richard’s life exemplified kindness, humility, and deep, unwavering love for those around him. A beacon of quiet strength and steady compassion, he touched the hearts of everyone he encountered and left an indelible impression. His commitment to faith and service was evident not only in his daily life but also through his involvement with the Knights of Columbus and the New Iberia Jaycees. He gave his time and heart freely, striving to uplift others and make a lasting difference. His legacy endures in the countless lives he inspired and the family who will carry his spirit forward with pride and love.
Richard is survived by his loving wife, Trudy; his daughters, Brittany Jones (Brad) and Laci Norris (Brian); and his beloved grandchildren, Liam, Landree, and Gray; siblings Evelyn Leleux, Terry Albarado (Rick), Glen Touchet (Leah), and Dan Kaczynski (Dorothy); sister-in-law Penny Peltier (Phil); brother-in-law Brian Peltier (Bridget); mother-in-law Barbara Peltier; and numerous nieces and nephews.
