NEW IBERIA – A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for Rita Mae Darby Langla, 77, 10:00 am Wednesday, December 30, 2015 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church. Fr. Garrett Savoie will be the celebrant. Interment will follow in St. Peter’s Cemetery.
A gathering of family and friends will be held at Evangeline Funeral Home on Tuesday from 3:00 pm until 10:00 pm, with the Rosary at 6:30 pm led the by the Catholic Daughters, Court Blessed Mother Theresa. Visiting will resume on Wednesday from 8:00 am until 9:30 am.
Mrs. Langla was born November 26, 1938 in New Iberia to the late Monroe Rufus Darby and Mae Rita Darby. She passed away peacefully Sunday, December 27, 2015 at her residence, with her family at her side.
Rita was retired but spent many years as a waitress with several New Iberia restaurants, and enjoyed taking care of her customers. She was also a caregiver and sat with the elderly. Some of her pastimes were going to Bingo and the Casino. She was a devoted and loving mother and grandmother and will be dearly missed.
Survivors include her sons, Perry Allen Langla, Jr. and wife Lucy and Kirk A. Langla; her grandchildren whom she adored, May Martin and husband Mike, April Postoe and husband Josh, and Genevieve Langla and companion Shane Reaux; 7 great grandchildren; and her brothers and sister, John Allen Darby, Sr., Monroe Rufus Darby, Jr., Terry Darby, Paul Darby, and Elise Judice.
Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Perry Allen Langla, Sr.; her great granddaughter, Alexis Price; and her brothers and sisters, Rufus Monroe Darby, Sr., Nellie Poirrier, Melvin James Darby, Sr., Edward Darby, Sr., Margaret Harry, Margie McCully, Harvey Darby and Lula Delcambre.
Pallbearers will be Dana, Steve and Guy Judice, Josh Postoe, Sr., Richard Darby, Sr., and Shane Reaux.
The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to Dr. Richard Kline, Dr. Zoe Larned and Dr. Ryan Hedgepeth of Ochsner Hospital; The staff of the Patrick F. Taylor Hope Lodge, Dr. Clyde Roy, Dr. Jason Morvant, Dr. Paul Gulotta, Dr. Gerard F. Sigue; St. Joseph Hospice, especially Sheryl and Shavonda Polite, and Michelle Zerangue; and a very special Thank You to Lucy Langla, her daughter-in-law, who cared for her through the years.
