Roxanne “Roxie” Bergeron Horton, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, companion, and friend, passed away suddenly and unexpectedly on August 14, 2026, in Lafayette, Louisiana, at the age of 59. A resident of Saint Martinville, Roxie leaves behind a lifetime of love, laughter, and memories that will be deeply cherished by all who knew her.
Roxie was a woman with a heart of gold and a smile that could light up any room. She loved her family fiercely, and nothing brought her greater happiness than her children and grandchildren. Her love also extended to her beloved fur babies, Lady, Issie, Heavenly, Jack, and Christmas, who held an incredibly special place in her heart and were very much a part of her family.
Anyone who knew Roxie knew how much she loved to talk on the phone. She was always calling someone—whether it was to check in, catch up, share a story, or simply talk for a while. Those phone calls became such a familiar part of life for her family and friends, and their absence will be deeply felt.
Roxie found happiness in the simple things. She enjoyed spending time coloring in her adult coloring books, tending to her plants, treating herself to a Frappuccino, and going on girls’ trips with those she loved. She treasured time spent with family and friends and had a way of making ordinary moments feel special simply by being there.
Her faith was also an important part of who she was. Roxie was a devoted believer who found comfort and strength in her relationship with God and held a deep devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary and belief in her intercession. Her faith remained a source of guidance throughout her life.
Roxie is survived by her daughters, Lindsey Horton Nelson and husband Ronald, and Lacey Horton; her son, Dillion Horton and wife Michelle; her siblings, Wendy Leonard and husband Jessie, and Shaun Bergeron and wife Leah; her in-laws, Monroe Horton and wife Irene, Yvonne LeBlanc and husband Ken, Russell Horton and wife Rometa, Johnny Horton and wife Sandy, Charlene Richard, Carlos Horton and wife Sheila, Rufus Horton Jr.,Belinda Bergeron, Arlean Maturin, and Audrey Horton; her loving companion, Brent Schexnyder; her grandchildren, Colby Jr. “Bliss,” Bryce, Lexi, Gracelyn, McKenzie, Ava, and Lillie; and her great-grandchild, Skylynn.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Thomas Horton, Sr.; her son, Thomas Horton, Jr.; her mother, Amelina Camille Bergeron; her father, Irving Paul Bergeron; and her brothers, Shane Bergeron and Caleb Delafosse.
Serving as pallbearers will be Shaun Bergeron, Russell Horton, Jessie Leonard, Justin Reaux, Blaine Champagne, Rusty Horton, and Brent Schexnyder.
Roxie’s passing came far too suddenly, leaving an emptiness in the lives of those who loved her. Yet she will be remembered not for the way she left, but for the joy she brought while she was here—for her bright smile, her long phone calls, her love for her family and fur babies, her faith, and the warmth she carried with her wherever she went.
Her family will forever miss hearing the phone ring and seeing Roxie’s name on the screen, knowing she was calling just to talk, to check in, or to say she loved them. The love behind those calls, and the woman behind that unmistakable smile, will remain in their hearts always.
A Funeral Service will be conducted for Roxanne at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, August 25, 2026 at Evangeline Funeral Home of New Iberia. Fr. Bill Melancon will officiate. Interment will follow at St. Elizabeth Catholic Cemetery in Coteau Holmes.
A gathering of family and friends will be held at the funeral home in New Iberia on Monday from 1:00 PM until 9:00 PM. The Men's Rosary Group will pray a rosary at 6:00 PM. The funeral home will reopen on Tuesday at 8:00 AM until the service time.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that donations be made to assist with and defray the cost of Roxie’s funeral expenses. Any contribution, no matter the amount, is deeply appreciated by the family during this unexpected and difficult time.
