

RYNELLA – A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for Roy Joseph Pellerin, age 88, at 11:00 am on Friday, November 25, 2016 at St. Marcellus Catholic Church. Fr. Kendal Faulk will be the celebrant. Mr. Pellerin will be laid to rest in St. Marcellus Cemetery. Military honors will be conducted by the Iberia Veterans Honor Guard.
A gathering of family and friends will be held at Evangeline Funeral Home on Thursday from 4:00 pm until 9:00 pm, with the Rosary being recited at 7:00 pm. Visiting hours will resume on Friday from 8:00 am until 10:30 am.
Roy was born January 2, 1928 in Rynella to the late Balthazar J. “BJ” Pellerin and the late Estelle Hebert Pellerin and was one of 18 children. He passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 22, 2016 at his residence, surrounded by his loving family.
Roy proudly served his country as a veteran of the United States Army during the Korean War. In his early years, he owned and operated the Dixie Doodle Restaurant in New Iberia. He was retired from AkzoNobel Salt Mine on Avery Island with over 35 years of service.
Outside of his work, Roy enjoyed taking care of the many animals (everything from chickens to emus) he raised on his property. In his younger years, he coached his sons and many other youth in Little League, all while managing the league. Some of his other pastimes included tending to his garden and hunting and fishing. He was a lifelong member of St. Marcellus Catholic Church and a member of VFW Post 1982. Roy will be missed dearly by all who knew and loved him.
Survivors include his children, Wayne Paul Pellerin and wife Amy, Byron Pellerin and wife Tina, Carla Pellerin Dressel and husband Joe, and Tressie Pellerin all of New Iberia; his eight grandchildren, Chris Pellerin and wife Joy, Shawn Savoie, Brock Pellerin and wife Stephanie, Tara Prados and husband TJ, Nakia Easter and husband David, Kali Dressel and husband Rodney, Raymond Boutte and wife Shelby and Alysse Trahan; and nine great grandchildren, Tyler, Joey, Bella, Ahni, Scout, Ryder, Sophie, Isabella, Peyton and two expected. He is also survived by his sister and brothers, Ethel Viator, Warren Pellerin, Joseph “Junior” Pellerin, Jimmy Pellerin, Johnny Pellerin and Nolan Pellerin.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Ruby Hebert Pellerin; his 1st wife, Alice DeRouen Pellerin; his son, Brent Paul Pellerin; his granddaughter, Marissa Guidry; and his brothers and sisters, Mildred Segura, Odette Segura, Willie Pellerin, Daniel Pellerin, Arthur Pellerin, Mary Pellerin, John Pellerin, Robert and Roberta Pellerin, Howard Pellerin and Irving Pellerin
Serving as pallbearers will be RJ, Brock, Chris, Nolan and Jimmy Pellerin and Karl “TJ” Prados. Honorary pallbearers are Alysse Trahan, Kali Dressel and Tara Prados.
The family would like to express their sincere gratitude and appreciation to our father’s caregivers, Chad Viator, Bernice Worley, Wease Bodin and Martha LeBlanc, who cared for our father with love and care.
