Ruby Segura Oubre

NEW IBERIA – A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for Ruby Segura Oubre, age 93, who passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 19, surrounded by family. The Mass will be held at 2:00 pm Monday, March 25, 2013 at St. Peter’s Catholic Church. Fr. Charles Langlois will be the celebrant. Interment will follow at Holy Family Mausoleum.

A gathering of family and friends will be held at Evangeline Funeral Home of New Iberia on Monday from 11:30 am until 1:30 pm.

Mrs. Oubre is survived by her two daughters, Bobbie Douglas and her husband Dr. Doug Douglas of Meridian, MS, and Connie Gauthier and her husband Ron of Lafayette; eight grandchildren, Cecil Hymel, Jr. and wife Kelly of New Iberia, Dr. Mark Douglas and wife Dr. Allison Douglas of Mobile, AL, Stephen Gauthier and wife Christy of Lafayette, Dr. Kevin Douglas of Meridian, Ms, Elizabeth Ransonet of New Iberia, Regan Gauthier of Lafayette, Jeff Douglas of Meridian, MS, and Dr. Stacey Douglas Tillman and husband Dr. Ben Tillman of Nashville, TN; and eleven great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Otis James Oubre; and her daughter, Sandra Oubre Moss.

A native and resident of New Iberia, Mrs. Oubre was involved in many social organizations during her life. She enjoyed sewing and tailoring, golf, traveling and was an avid Bridge player, playing with the same group of ladies for over 50 years. She was still playing in her regular club until she moved to Lafayette in 2010.

Serving as pallbearers will be her six grandchildren, Regan Gauthier, Cecil Hymel, Mark Douglas, Stephen Gauthier, Kevin Douglas and Jeff Douglas.

The family would like to thank Dr. Douglas Sagrera and his staff for his compassionate care over the years. We would also like to thank Hospice of Acadiana, especially Pat Richard, whose constant care was consolation not only to our mother, but to our family as well. We would also like to acknowledge her caregivers, Lisa, Donna, Mary Catherine, Blessing and Dianna from Cornerstone; and her sitters, Joice, Joyce, Becky, Claudette, Connie, Nellie and Sheila.
