NEW IBERIA – A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted for Mrs. Homer J. Comeaux, the former Shirley Bonin, age 89, at 10:00 am Saturday, December 15, 2012 at St. Marcellus Catholic Church with Fr. Gene Tremie officiating. Interment will follow at St. Marcellus Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 3:00 pm until 9:00 pm on Friday with a Rosary at 7:00 pm. The funeral home will reopen at 8:00 am on Saturday until service time.
A native of St. Martinville and resident of New Iberia, Mrs. Comeaux passed away at 10:30 am on Wednesday, December 12, 2012 at Dauterive Hospital.
Mrs. Comeaux was a member of St. Marcellus Catholic Church where she was a former religion teacher. She also volunteered at St. Francis Diner and was a member of the Ladies VFW Auxiliary. Shirley was well known as being a very caring person and great mother and caregiver. Also, she was the best cook and an outstanding seamstress. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
She is survived by one daughter, Victoria “ Vicky” C. Rowan and husband Richard D. and three sons, Albert “Al” C. Comeaux and wife Linda E., Mark A. Comeaux and wife Millie G. and Larry T. Comeaux and wife Patti B. all of New Iberia; ten grandchildren, Chad Comeaux, Rick Rowan, David Rowan, Monica Esponge, Mathew Comeaux, Marshall Comeaux, April Campbell, Mallory Comeaux, Ryan Comeaux and Brodie Comeaux; fourteen great grandchildren, Shonda David, Rusty Cooper, Gerald Porrier, Faith Comeaux, Kylan Comeaux, Brayton Comeaux, Nicholas Rowan, Maci Rowan, Cameron Esponge, Tucker Comeaux, Gage Boutte, Reese Royer, Collin Comeaux, Cole Comeaux and three great great grandchildren, Brooklyn Broussard, Peyton Cooper and Chloe Porrier.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Homer J. Comeaux; parents, Albert and Rose O’Flarity Bonin; two brothers, Belizaire “Bill” and Russel Bonin and three sisters, Anna Mae Vaughn, Elodie “Tut” Peltier and Esther B. Comeaux; two grandchildren, Rhonda David and Brent Comeaux and two great grandchildren, Micah P. Campbell and Joshua Esponge.
Pallbearers will be Chad Comeaux, David Rowan, Mathew Comeaux, Marshall Comeaux, Brodie Comeaux, Ryan Comeaux, Rusty Cooper and Mallory Comeaux. Rick Rowan will be the vocalist.
