NEW IBERIA – A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for Simon J. Armentor, 82, at 9:30 am Wednesday, October 20, 2010 at Evangeline Funeral Home with Father Jared Suire, a family friend, as the Celebrant. Interment will be held at Memorial Park Cemetery.
A gathering of family and friends will be held at Evangeline Funeral Home, 314 E. St. Peter St. in New Iberia Tuesday from 4:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. with the rosary to be recited at 6:30 p.m. The funeral home will reopen at 8:00 am on Wednesday until service time.
A native and resident of New Iberia, Mr. Armentor passed away at 8:30 am on Sunday, October 17, 2010, at Lafayette General Hospital.
Born on August 10, 1928, Mr. Armentor worked as a heavy machine operator for 36 years. He also worked at Cote Blanche Salt mine. He served in the Army during the Korean War. When he retired he enjoyed growing and selling okra and planting his garden. He and Joyce were members of CFMA and enjoyed attending all of the Chapter festivals. He really enjoyed attending his grandchildren’s visits and activities.
Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Joyce LeBlanc Armentor, daughter, Janet Gary and husband Darryl of Coteau, son Scott of New Iberia; brothers Lloyd Armentor and wife, Anna Lee, of Coteau, Donald Armentor and wife, June of Coteau; sister Lena Fitch of Jeanerette; 3 grandchildren, Tiffany Gary of Shreveport, Laurie Lewis and husband Ben of Alexandria and Jakob Armentor of Iota and family friend Jennifer Guillory.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Laurent and Eunice Fremin Armentor; brothers Perfice Armentor, Fulton Armentor, Rene Armentor, his twin brother, Sim Armentor , and Allen Armentor; sisters Edith Myers, Lily Hammonds, Solange LeBlanc, Nola Bodin and Vernette Segura.
Pallbearers will be Sim J. Armentor, Bill Armentor, Farrell Armentor, Gordy Broussard, Donnie Simon, and Wayne Romero.
Honorary pallbearers will be his grandson Jakob and his brothers, Lloyd Armentor and Donald Armentor.
