NEW IBERIA - Stephen “Stevie” Andre Viator Sr., 85, a resident of Opelousas and native of New Iberia, passed away on Monday, October 26, 2026, in Opelousas, Louisiana. He was born on April 5, 1941, in New Iberia.
Stevie spent most of his working years in the oil and gas industry as a salesman, eventually retiring from Halliburton. Outside of work, he had a passion for old trucks and enjoyed spending his free time working on and restoring them. His pride and joy was his custom split-window Chevy, a project he spent over four years working on in his spare time. He put countless hours into restoring the truck, even fitting the entire interior with custom leather. It was a labor of love and something he took great pride in.
When he wasn't working on his trucks, Stevie loved to dance, especially with Lorena by his side. The two enjoyed spending evenings dancing together at the Petroleum Club. Whether he was spending time in the garage, enjoying a night out dancing, or simply being with the people he loved, Stevie found happiness in the things that meant the most to him. He leaves behind many wonderful memories for his family and friends to cherish.
Those left to cherish his memory include his beloved partner, Lorena Foster; his children, Stephen Viator Jr. (Cathleen), Michael Viator (Cherie), Susan Viator Woodard (Keith), and Andre' Viator; his stepdaughter, Wanda Milleman; his siblings, Carl Viator (Jeannie), Rodney Viator (Connie), and Annette Clifford; and his grandchildren, Kendall Viator, Collin Viator, Averie Eisner, Annslie Self, Jaclyn Dunphy, and Julia Dunphy.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Katherine M. Viator; his father, E.J. Viator; his mother, Clara Girard; his sister, Charlene Delaune; and his brother, Patrick Viator.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, October 30, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. at Evangeline Funeral Home in New Iberia. Deacon Keith Duhon will officiate. Interment will follow at Holy Family Mausoleum.
The family will receive visitors at Evangeline Funeral Home on Friday, October 30, 2026, beginning at 10:00 a.m. until 12:45 p.m. A Rosary service will be held at 11:00 a.m.
Serving as pallbearers will be Stephen Viator Jr., Michael Viator, Phillip Foster, Marc Foster, and Carl Viator.
