Thomas is the son of the late Paul Romero, Jr. of New Iberia and Rosemary Bigler Romero of Franklin. He is survived by his son Daniel Romero and his siblings, Jerry Romero and his wife Irma who live in Suffern, NY; Cathy Romero Sargent and her husband Glenn who live in Richardson, TX; Fr. Mario Romero who is pastor of Holy Cross Catholic Church in Lafayette, LA; Stephen Romero and his wife Tammy who live in Lafayette, LA; and Pat Romero and his wife Yvonne who live in Lafayette, LA. Thomas has 7 nieces and nephews.
Thomas was a 1977 graduate of Catholic High School in New Iberia, LA, and a 1981 graduate of USL in Lafayette, LA.
While studying at USL, Thomas took a Spanish immersion class where he went to Mexico for a time to be immersed in the Spanish language. While in Mexico, he met his future wife, Cristina Marti, whom he married a few years later. Thomas and Cristina had one son, Daniel, who still lives and works in San Luis Potosi, Mexico. Thomas loved his son, Daniel, with all of his heart.
Thomas lived and worked in Mexico most of his adult life in the financial arena for various international companies that had offices in Mexico.
Thomas was a very social person who loved to visit and socialize with friends. In his younger years, he was quite the dancer! He was very devoted to his Catholic faith and loved Jesus, trying his best to live out his Christian beliefs in his everyday life. Thomas was very family-oriented and tried his best to keep in touch with his family back in the United States.
A gathering of family and friends will be held at St. Peter's Catholic Church on Friday from 10:00 am until 10:45 am followed by A Mass of Christian Burial 11:00 am Friday, July 10, 2020 at St. Peter's Catholic Church in New Iberia. Fr. Mario Romero will be the Celebrant, with Fr. Buddy Breaux as homilist.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Thomas’ name to the Endowment Fund at Catholic High School in New Iberia, LA.
The Romero family would like to thank everyone for their prayers and loving support during this difficult time. In facing the tough challenge of burying our brother, we remember the words of Jesus: “I have told you this so that you might have peace in me. In the world you will have trouble, but take courage, I have conquered the world.” (John 16: 33) Please give Mom and Dad a hug and a kiss from us, Thomas! We love you and long to be reunited together again in heaven as a family, looking upon the face of our Lord Jesus Christ!
