

NEW IBERIA – A mass of Christian Burial will be conducted for Mr. Verlis “Rube” Joseph Denise, age 76, at 11:00 am Friday, December 4, 2015 at St. Marcellus Catholic Church with Fr. Manny Fernandez officiating. Interment will follow at Broussard Cemetery in Bayou Petit Anse with military services by Iberia Veterans Honor Guard.
Visitation will be held from 2:00 pm until 9:00 pm on Thursday with a Rosary at 7:00 pm. The funeral home will reopen at 8:00 am on Friday until service time.
A native of Jefferson Island and resident of New Iberia, Mr. Denise passed away at 5:30 pm on Monday, November 30, 2015 at Iberia Medical Center.
Mr. Denise was a veteran of the United States Army. He was a member of St. Marcellus Catholic Church and a Third Degree member of the Knights of Columbus Council 7050, and served as a volunteer for Fr. Manny’s healing masses. He served as a Reserve Deputy for the New Iberia City Police and also the Iberia Parish Sheriff’s Department.
Mr. Rube built and owned Third Base Grocery Store, and also owned his own business of painting, sheetrock installation and wall paper hanging.
He was a great husband, father and grandfather. He volunteered his time as a Little League Baseball Coach at Rynella Ball Park, and was an avid Saints fan. He enjoyed cooking for his family and friends and was a member of the Ancient Order of Creole Gourmet.
Mr. Rube is survived by his wife of 54 years, Sandy Norris Denise; one daughter, Kristie Bouillion and husband Chad; three sons, Darren Denise and wife Jill; Jarrod Denise and fiancée Shannon Schaubnut and Jason Denise and wife Amy; ten grandchildren, Brody Denise, Cole Denise, Tate Denise, Tori Denise, Dusti Bourque, Shelbi Mallet, Reed Denise, Derrick Romero, Lanie Romero and Reagan Bouillion; one great granddaughter, Kaylee Denise; sister in law, Jayne N. Segura; brother in law, Wayne Norris and wife Linda and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Theotis and Annie Suire Denise; and one sister, Virgie D. Copell.
Pallbearers will be Darren Denise, Jarrod Denise, Jason Denise, Brody Denise, Cole Denise, Tate Denise, Derrick Romero and Doyle Copell.
Chad Bouillion, Bobby Derouen, Floyd Temple, Barry Broussard, Dr. James Falterman, Jr, and Dr. Darvin Hales will serve as Honorary Pallbearers.
