Larry was seven months older than I and he and Suzie were treated as brother and sister in our big family. I don't know why, but his mother, "Nan", used to tell me to take care of Larry when we wandered around in the country near our house on 'highway' 90... and around the old family home up the dirt road where great-aunt Elodie Landry Romero lived. I especially remember Nan telling me to help him "cross the cattle guards'.
One night, probably when we were 8, he and I dared to escape the babysitter, and leave their house on Dodson St. We climbed the fence into the pool in the city park and were happily swimming in the dark when Nan suddenly stood at the fence, and said, "Get out of the water". Of course we had to re-climb the metal fence. Larry was in REAL trouble; Tibby was a bit hard on him. I called my Mamma and said, "Come get me."
