Virginia was born January 19, 1935 in Bow Valley, Nebraska to the late Lewis F. Uhing and Rosella Kohls Uhing. She passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 15, 2013 at Grace Care Center of Cypress in Houston, TX, with her family at her side.

Virginia was retired but formerly worked with the Daily Iberian in the circulation dept., and with Tuesday Morning in Houston. Outside of her work, she was heavily involved with both the Boy and Girl Scouts when the children were young. She was also actively supportive in youth sports and academic accomplishments of all, and was very proud of her family. As an animal lover, she raised maltese dogs and became a certified veterinary assistant. Her long list of precious animals prepared her for the rescue of her beloved Sassy, the best dressed dog around.

She loved camping, and traveling all over the USA visiting family and friends, and even visited Australia. RVing became second nature to her and Mark, and they enjoyed being members of the “Crusin’ Cajuns” family. As an excellent seamstress, she became an avid embroiderer. She so generously and unselfishly enjoyed donating and gifting churchs, priests, and family and friends with these gifts that will be cherished forever. She will forever be known as a devoted Elvis Fan. To her friends, she always put them first offering up the largest of shoulders to lean on. Her wisdom knew no end. She leaves behind many fond memories that will forever live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.

Survivors include her husband of 59 years, Markee A. Olsberg of Magnolia, TX; her children, Mark A. Olsberg (Liz) of Fredericksburg, VA, Mickey S. Olsberg (Cindy) of Gilbert, AZ, Valerie A. Redmon (Rickey) of New Iberia, LA, Michelle M. Mobley (Harry) of Shreveport, LA, Meleah R. Hallmark (Anthony J.) of Houston, TX; and her beloved dog Sassy; 13 grandchildren, Thea R. White, Bryan Olsberg (Melinda), Jennifer R. Haines (Jason), Bradley Olsberg, Andy Walsworth (Jenna), Sara O. Atkins, Lance Redmon, Brock Broussard, Brandon Olsberg, Michael Mobley, Harleigh Hallmark, Courtney Mobley and AJ Hallmark; 16 great grandchildren, Devin, Cameron, Damian, Jordyn, Gavin, Jalen, Cameron, Jonathan, Dominic, Anthony, Tyler, Riley, Nathan, Anniston, Hunter and Joshua; a brother, Gerald Uhing of Hartington, NE; and many God-children, nieces and nephews.

Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Michael L. Olsberg; a brother, James F. Uhing; and sister-in-law, Claudette L. Uhing.

Serving as pallbearers will be Michael Mobley, Lance Redmon, Anthony Hallmark, Andrew Walsworth, Devin Crochet, and Jason Haines. Honorary pallbearers will be AJ Hallmark, Brandon Olsberg, Brock Broussard, Rickey Redmon and Harry Mobley.

Memorial contributions may be made in Virginia’s name to St. Jude Childrens Research Hospital, MD Anderson Cancer Center, the American Cancer Society, Houston Hospice, or to a charity of one’s choice.

The family would like to thank MD Anderson Leukemia Center Doctors and Teams, especially Dr. Tapan Kadia and Alexis, and all the staff who made our journey a little smoother and much more rewarding. To Houston Hospice and the Cypress team, an extra special thank you for reaching out to each one of us as we embarked on her passage of life, and to the most notable, all the friends, well-wisher’s and care providers of this family, a prayer of thanks that we may someday return your kindness.

Dear Mark and family, Gerry kept me informed about Virginia's illness and we will have a special remembrance for her and all of you on November 1st and 2nd. I never forgot that pleasant visit with you in 1967, although it was just "hi" and "goodbye" on my way from Mexico to Chicago. Wish I had known more about Virginia's accomplishments and the activities of your family before this. Tom Uhing – Manila, Philippines

Dear Mark and family, What a beautiful life ! The last time I saw all of you was years ago [the picture of you all by the white stationwagon at the farm] but I have always remembered Virginia as a kind, happy and laughing person. My heart goes out to your family, especially all those dear grand and great grandkids who will miss a wonderful grammie. But think of her dancing in heaven. Love toyou all, Lory Garrison [Fran Gullikson's little sister in Montana.]

My thoughts and prayers are with you and all of your family. I loved Virginia like a big sister. My own sisters have always lived so far away that I never see them. Last summer Virginia and I had so much fun when you were here camping. I will miss her wonderful personality and her infectious laugh. I hope we will see you and Sassy next summer.
