Vladimir Alexandroff

JEANERETTE – “Joie de Vivre,” Joy of Living, our father had this in abundance. He loved flying as much as he loved anything physically challenging like rowing, swimming, biking, snow skiing, and hiking.

Despite the many challenges in his life: being a fighter pilot in WWII, escaping communist Bulgaria when he was 26, he built a new life happily settling in Louisiana with our mother, Mercedes Eguren Alexandroff. Many people will remember him as a crop-duster, a career he enjoyed for 40 years.

Maybe because of all he’d been through in life, his motto was “Sit easy in the saddle of life”. He’d often tell us “Don’t stress, enjoy life” and this is how our Dad lived.

At the end of his life there was nothing left for him to do or to say. He had unconditionally loved his wife, his children, and grandchildren. He had enjoyed seeing many beautiful places on this earth and appreciated people from all walks of life.

His wishes were for a private service. He would love the thought of people remembering him by taking a walk outside, enjoying the sunshine, hiking to a beautiful place, thinking of him when flying, and just enjoying life and loved ones.

Vladimir Alexandroff, “Alex” is survived by his four daughters: Mercedes Wehmann, Raina Alexandroff, Lilli Alexandroff, Claudia Schroer, and his grandchildren, Alex and Harrison Wehmann.

High Flight By John Gillespie Magee, Jr.

“Oh, I have slipped the surly bonds of earth, And danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings; Sunward I’ve climbed and joined the tumbling mirth of sun-split clouds – and done a hundred things You have not dreamed of – wheeled and soared and swung high in the sunlit silence. Hovering there I’ve chased the shouting wind along and flung my eager craft through footless halls of air.

“Up, up the long delirious burning blue I’ve topped the wind-swept heights with easy grace, where never lark, or even eagle, flew; and, while with silent, lifting mind I’ve trod the high untrespassed sanctity of space, put out my hand and touched the face of God.”

I worked with Alex at Roane Flying Service for three years. He was always a very positive person, hard working and honest. He was an excellent pilot and made good bread. I can still see him coming to work on his bicycle. He will be missed. David Degeyter

Alex and your family are in our thoughts and prayers. Your father was an upbeat, gentle person who always had a smile and a kind word for all. His flying skill was legendary, I'm sure he's giving the angels some tips on flying in heaven.
He will be missed, please accept our sincerest condolences.
