RYNELLA – A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for Warren Joseph Pellerin at 10:00 am Thursday, September 27, 2018 at St. Marcellus Catholic Church. Fr. Richard Broussard will be the celebrant. Mr. Pellerin will be laid to rest in St. Marcellus Cemetery following the Mass.
A gathering of family and friends will be held at Evangeline Funeral Home on Wednesday from 10:30 am until 9:00 pm, with the Holy Rosary at 7:00 pm being led by Knights of Columbus St. Marcellus Council 7050. Visiting hours will resume on Thursday from 8:00 am until 9:30 am dismissal prayers.
Warren Joseph Pellerin was born May 18, 1933 to the late Balthazar J. and Estelle Hebert Pellerin and was one of 18 children. On Monday, September 24, 2018, Warren passed away peacefully at his home, surrounded by his loving family. He was 85.
Mr. Pellerin was a retired mechanic with Akzo Nobel Salt Mine at Avery Island with 32 years of service. Warren was known all over the parish and Acadiana area for his expertise in gardening. Many sought his knowledge, including county agents in hopes of having gardens like his. He was also featured in local newspapers for his award winning vegetables, especially his tomatoes. His Tuesday and Saturday’s were spent at the Farmer’s Market at Bouligny Plaza where he sold his vegetables and visited with the other vendors. Warren also raised chickens, cattle and hogs, and was an avid hunter and fisherman. Mr. Pellerin was a lifelong and faithful parishioner of St. Marcellus Catholic Church and served as an Usher for many years, and a member of the Knights of Columbus St. Marcellus Council 7050.
Above all, he was a man who lived his life for the care and love of his family. He instilled a work ethic in his children and spoiled his grandchildren and great grandchildren with his love. His memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him. Rest well.
Survivors include his wife Camella Hanks Pellerin; his children David Pellerin and wife Jody, Dennis Pellerin and wife Vicki, Duwana Pellerin, Derek Pellerin, and Darin Pellerin and wife Becki; his grandchildren, Brock, Justin, Breadon, Skylar, Lyndsey, Chanley, Courtney, Megan, Ashlyn, Hunter, Taeler, Ian, Aubrey and Noah; 24 great grandchildren; his sister and brothers, Ethel Viator, Joseph “Junior” Pellerin, James “Jimmy” Pellerin, John “Johnny” Pellerin, Nolan Pellerin, Sr.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Jennifer Leigh Pellerin; and his sisters and brothers, Mary Pellerin, Hazel Pellerin, Robert Pellerin, Roberta Pellerin, John Leroy Pellerin, Irving J. Pellerin, Willie Pellerin, Mildred Segura, Odette Segura, Daniel Pellerin, Arthur Pellerin and Roy Pellerin.
Serving as pallbearers are David, Dennis, Derek, Darin, Brock, Skylar Pellerin and Jace Bowlin.
The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the staff of Grace Hospice, especially Jennifer, Lea, Christine, Ashley and Rebecca for their care and compassion while in their care. They would also like to thank his doctors, Dr.’s Walker, Patout, Charbonet, Gulotta and Lahasky for the many years of care.
