A native and resident of New Iberia, Mr. Watson passed away peacefully in the early morning hours on Friday, November 4, 2022 at his residence surrounded by his loving family.
Woodrow, better known as “Woody” by family and friends, was born on February 26, 1941 in New Iberia, LA. He was a kind and generous man who would give you the shirt off his back or the shoes on his feet if someone was in need. Woody was a faithful and devout parishioner of St. Peters Catholic Church and lived for his faith. He proudly worked as a plumber for 57 years with 29 of those being owner of Gulf Coast Plumbing. Woody enjoyed being outdoors, often going camping with the Cruising Cajuns. He and his wife were also members of a small offset of campers who called themselves “Pa-2-La” ( or Pas Tout Las) which is French for “Not all there”. He was especially fond of going shrimping. Woody spent many memorable times at Vermilion Bay with his son, Woody, III. And lest we forget, Woody was also the biggest Elvis fan in New Iberia! Woody will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend and will be truly and deeply missed by all those that knew and loved him.
He is survived by his loving wife, Audrey Boudreaux Watson; children, Woodrow Watson, III. (Shellie), Wayne William Watson (Jennifer), and Michelle Lynn Watson Myers (Steve); step-children, Dwight Savoie, Alan Savoie (Kathy), and Keith Savoie (Shauna); sister, Mary Ann Watson Wyble; 13 grandchildren; and 16 great grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Woodrow W. Watson, Sr. and Sarah Jeffery Watson; and daughter, Kimberly Watson Garcia.
Pallbearers will be Woody Watson, III., B.J. Watson, Dwight Savoie, Alan Savoie, Keith Savoie, Steve Trahan, and Kevin Domingue.
Honorary pallbearer will be Drudy Neil.
The family would like to extend special thanks to the staff of Hospice of Acadiana, especially to Monique Yellings, for their care and compassion towards Woody during his final days.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Woody’s memory to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, Hospice of Acadiana, and the Tunnel to Towers Foundation.
