New London — Anne “Nancy” Hare of New London, formerly of Waterford, died Aug. 28, 2023, at Lawrence + Memorial Hospital in New London. She was born Jan. 5, 1932, in Edinburgh, Scotland, the daughter of John and Mary (Masterton) Lauder.
She married her loving husband John in 1952. They were happily married until his passing in 2019. She was also predeceased by her brother Jack Lauder.
In 1973, Nancy, John and their children emigrated from Canterbury, England, to Waterford. She joined the staff of the New England Savings Bank in 1979, and retired as HR operations officer in 1992. She was an active member of Crossroads Presbyterian Church in Waterford, a dedicated L & M Hospital volunteer, a long-time member of the Eastern Connecticut Symphony Chorus and a devoted volunteer at the St. James Church overnight shelter for the homeless.
Nancy loved her daily walks along the Ocean Beach boardwalk, and made friends with many other walkers she saw on a regular basis. Her kind heart and loving spirit will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
Nancy is survived by her daughter Marianne Davis (Stephen) of Shrewsbury, Mass.; son, Iain Hare of New London; and her three grandchildren, Katherine Davis of San Diego, Calif., Daniel Davis of Shrewsbury, and Allison Davis of Shrewsbury.
A Celebration of Life and Remembrance will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 5, at Crossroads Presbyterian Church, 70 Cross Road, Waterford, and will be followed by a luncheon at Langley’s, 28 Lamphere Road, Waterford. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Crossroads Presbyterian Church. Fulton-Theroux Funeral Home in New London, is assisting the family with the arrangements.
