Mr. Facas was born on July 31, 1930, the son of Charles and Mary (Baruty) Facas in New London, Connecticut.
Mr. Facas is survived by his loving wife on 62 years Mary Jane Facas, son Mark Facas, daughters, Barbara Facas and Charlene (Bruce) Killion, sister Gloria (John) Jeffords, three grandchildren, Charles Lickwola, Mark Facas and Mary Hart as well as three great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a son David Facas nine years earlier.
Charlie was a Buckley boy, attending Buckley High School, New London and graduating in 1948. He continued his education at Mitchell College receiving an Associates degree in Business Administration and then continued on to the University of Connecticut, Storrs, where he meet the love of his life, Mary Jane Krushefsky. After a suitable courtship, they married in 1953. When Mr. Facas reflected on UCONN, he always said, "College taught me how to think for myself."
With his wife, he returned to New London and joined his father, Charles Facas Sr. in business at the California Fruit and Produce Company at 79 State Street, New London. This store would become synonymous with the Facas name and an icon in the downtown New London business landscape. As his father retired, he and his sister, Gloria worked side by side for over 60 years. His sons, David and Mark joined him in the business and his wife Mary Jane assisted in the bookkeeping. Redevelopment forced them to move the business two more times and they ended up on the corner of Broad Street and Huntington Street. He enjoyed working and had many friends in downtown New London. Charlie continued working alongside his son Mark Facas and friends visited him daily until his health deteriorated a few weeks ago.
His interests included investing, the stock market, and sports. His family, his friends, his business, and trips to Florida were important to him. Charles was a lifelong parishioner of St. Ann Greek Melkite Church in Waterford, Connecticut, and a member of AM-L-SYRS Club.
The Facas Family would like to thank all the wonderful area doctors, the L& M Hospital Staff, and the SE CT VNA for all the kindness, attention, care and support they afforded Charles P. Facas and the entire family. We will never forget you.
