Constance J. Thayer

Mrs.Thayer was born on June 5, 1932 in St. Charles, MN the daughter of George Dean and Stella Willetta Seeman Johnson. She married R. Clinton Thayer Jr. on June 2, 1951 in Rochester, NY. She attended the Eastman School of Music and performed as a bassist with the Rochester Philharmonic, Eastern CT Symphony and at Goodspeed Opera House. She received her PhD from UConn in 1982. She was employed as a teacher in the Waterford School System for many years until her retirement in 2002.

Mrs.Thayer was a member of the Lucretia Shaw Chapter of the D.A.R. and the Fidelity Chapter #54, Order of Eastern Star. She enjoyed singing in the choir at the Flanders Baptist Church. In retirement she became a skilled quilter, crafting many treasured family gifts and quilts for charities. She was a devoted and loving wife, mother and grandmother.

Mrs.Thayer is survived by her loving husband Clint, her son Ralph C. Thayer III of New London, her daughter Patricia and her husband Clifford Backes of Moodus, and her two grandsons Peter M. and his wife Sara McIvor Jr. of NY, and Christian C. and wife Christine McIvor of NC.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday July 23, 2011 at 1:00pm in Flanders Baptist Church, East Lyme. Interment will be private.
