

Edward was the son of the late Andrew Monroe, Sr. and Rosie Bell Acree Thomas. He was born in Denton, Maryland on September 4, 1930. Edward was educated in the public schools of Denton, Maryland.
God afforded Edward the privilege of marrying Pauline Coleman, a virtuous woman on April 12, 1954. She predeceased him on July 15, 2001.
Edward was an Army veteran of the Korean War and received the Korean Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal and National Defense Service Medal. Edward retired as a chemical operator from Pfizer Chemical Company in Groton, Connecticut.
Edward loved going fishing, hunting, and boating with his sons and Gospel music, especially quartet singing. Edward was a member of Full Gospel Tabernacle Church in Old Saybrook, Connecticut where he served on the Trustee Board for many years.
Edward leaves to cherish his memory his sons: Edward A. Thomas, Jr., Wayne Thomas of New London; daughters: Mary Self of Maryland, Shirley (Kenneth) Hamilton of New London; "adopted" daughter: Donna (John) Medina; sister-in-law Gerline Brown of Pittsburgh, Pa; 12 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Corrected service information is as follows: A funeral service will be held on Saturday September 21st, at 10am at Fulton-Theroux Funeral Home, 181 Ocean Ave., New London. A calling hour will be held for one hour prior to the service from 9-10am on Saturday at the funeral home. Burial with military honors will follow in Cedar Grove Cemetery, New London.
