Waterford- Elsbeth Dunning Verkade, 80 of Rope Ferry Rd. died November 16,2013 at Bayview Healthcare. She was born April 25, 1933 in New London the daughter of Horace and Ruth Dunning. She married Hendrik Verkade, Jr. in 1952. He predeceased her in 2004. Her youngest son, Stephen, predeceased her in 2006.
Elsbeth attended Harbor School and graduated from Williams Memorial Institute. She was active in church, Sunday school, Girl Scouts and Cub Scouts.
Elsbeth is survived by her son, Hendrik Verkade III, daughter, Judith and husband Butch, sister Ruth McCall and grandchildren Hartney, Nicole, Hendrik, Heather and Benjamin.
A celebration of her life will be held at Fulton-Theroux Funeral Hall on January 6th, 2014 from 3:00 to 7:00 with a service at 6:00. Fulton-Theroux Funeral Home, New London is handling the arrangements.
