
Eugene J. Gumbs, Jr., 72, of New London passed away Saturday, April 21, 2012 after a brave struggle with cancer. Gene was born June 20, 1939, the oldest of 5 children of the late Eugene and Olga (Hotsky) Gumbs. He and his wife Frances Dembrowski owned Video Delights on Bank Street in New London for several years. Gene spent most of his working years as a member of Local 777 of the Pipefitters Union. Prior to retiring, he worked as a security officer/supervisor at Mohegan Sun. A passion of Gene's was history. He spent several years as a member of the Second Connecticut Regiment of the Continental Line, a Revolutionary War re-enactment group.
Gene is survived by his wife, Frances; son Eugene III; daughters Elayne Thomas and Susan Sumara; stepson Joseph Muratore; sisters Joanne Jankovich, Carol Sowa and Linda Czapla; brother James Gumbs; eight grandchildren and multiple nieces and nephews.
Family and friends are all invited to a Celebration of Gene's Life at the home of Joseph and Anne Muratore of 914 Bank St. on Saturday, April 28, 2012 from 12pm to 4pm. All are welcome to come and share memories.
