Evelyn was born on September 7, 1925, in New London, the daughter of Eugene Phelps and Emily Button Phelps.
Aside from raising a large family, Evelyn worked hard as a housekeeper, caterer, taking in laundry and ironing. She also worked as a riveter at Electric Boat during the war. In her younger years, she was a talented artist, as evidenced by the collection of pieces she left for her children. Quite the baker, she was well known for her cookies and pies. One could not leave after a visit without a bag of sugar cookies or a strawberry rhubarb pie. With her magical green thumb, she could bring any ailing plant back to life. She also enjoyed long walks and quiet moments along a stream or brook while George fly fished for trout.
Evelyn is survived by her children David Rall of Norwich, Linda Forgue of Westerly, Timothy Rall and his wife Diana of East Hampton, Patricia Silva of New London, Debra Philopena of Lebanon, stepson Steven Alger and his wife Lynn of New London, along with many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She was also predeceased by her children, Richard Rall, Ronald Rall and Diana Murphy; and siblings Daniel, Eugene, Clyde and Raymond Phelps, Emily Watson and Edith Smeeton.
The family would like to thank Beechwood Health and Rehabilitation Center staff for taking such excellent care of our mother over the past few years.
