Orene L. McCormick

Orene Lois McCormick died peacefully in Middletown, Connecticut on Monday, July 13th, 2026 at the age of 93. Orene is survived by her three children, four grandchildren, two son-in-laws and one daughter-in-law.

Orene grew up on a small farm in rural North Carolina where she was raised by her mother – a gifted musician, painter and writer.

From those humble beginnings, Orene’s life took her on a multi-year journey when she became the wife of a career Navy sailor. From North Carolina she traveled to South Carolina, Texas, Virginia, Canada and finally Connecticut. During her travels she raised her three children while managing the demands of moving to new cities, furnishing new homes and finding new schools every few years. At the end of her marriage, Orene remained in Connecticut for the rest of her life, where she spent twenty years as a pharmacy technician at Lawrence & Memorial Hospital in New London.

Orene was quick to find humor in the little things in life. She often began and ended sentences with a chuckle. Orene loved music, often participated in group activities, and easily attracted friends wherever she went. Voted “Most Dignified” in her high school, Orene remained a kind and thoughtful soul to the end. She will be missed.
